combine tileset using GIMP.

hi. i'm absolutely new to this rpg maker project. i wanna ask all of you who know how to combine tileset using GIMP.
simple and easy to learn for me because i'm slowpoke. thnks

Simple, basic way:

If you don't have a tileset exported:
in RPG Maker, click the import/export button and export the tilesets you want to combine to some folder.

In GIMP,

1. Open one of the tilesets

2. Click Image -> Configure Grid

3. Change height and width to 32 and 32 (I'm assuming this is XP?)
Close out that window

4. Click View -> Show grid

5. Click View -> Snap to grid

6. Click Image -> Canvas Size

7. Change the height to whatever you need, like if you want a whole new tileset, then double it or whatever, but keep it a multiple of 32.

8. Click Layer -> Layer to Image size

9. Open up the other tileset

10. Select all (ctrl + a) and copy (ctrl + c)

11. paste (ctrl + v) it into the extra space in your first tileset.

Now save and import it back into RPG Maker.

Hope that was descriptive enough.

Actually, I was combining some last night and forgot to tell you to make the large tileset Image -> Mode -> RGB to prevent any color loss due to the indexed mode.

I'm having a problem with this. I'm working in Photoshop, and I have no trouble with the resizing, copying, pasting, etc. But the second I take it out of indexed color, RPG XP will not allow me to select a transparent or semi-transparent color when I import it. It just imports it and is done. I am using a PNG, combining 3 default town tilesets, and of course they all have slightly different palettes. I have made all shadows the same color, but the shadows are not working, because it appears I cannot select a color to be semi-transparent. Normal transparency is working, presumably because the background is simply transparent in Photoshop (it does not have a color).

So, are we limited to 256 colors per tileset if we want to use semi-transparency? :/

I think so.

I don't use photoshop, but to fix the shadows, just select all the shadow color in photoshop (GIMP has a color-select tool that selects all of one color, with an adjustable threshold, I'm assuming photoshop has something like this as well). Once you have all the shadows, and only the shadows selected, just go over the entire image with a large, 50% opacity eraser.

Yeah, I think if there's any transparency or semi-transparency already in the image, RPG XP won't show the transparency chooser dialog.
