Circumcision and You

My cousins were not circumcised and they have to do alot to avoid infection.

Oh, you mean like that thing... what's it called? Oh, yeah, washing?

Obviously there are two very different school of thinking when it comes to this, and I doubt any agreements will ever be made until a sure, uncontestable studies bring facts that won't be denied 10 days later.

So anyway, for now it looks like it will remain a cultural fact and the decision to be or not cut will be based on personal preference (or rather, parent's preference).

Are circumsized people just really used to not bathing? Maybe yeah, back when baths were taken YEARLY, it helped quite a bit against infection. But I think, you know, regular upkeep is enough to stave such things off in the modern world.

No kid is going to grow up and be like "I wish you hadn't circumsized me... I want my foreskin back!" Seriously. Whether they are circumsized as a kid or not, they're most likely going to feel okay about it because it's the penis they've seen every day for X years.
Because what man says "I have been made less of a man, and there is nothing I can do about it"? I think that that is what many circumcised men would feel if they were going to admit that circumcision is detrimental.

@Roman: You see...that is the type of mentality I don't understand. (Hypothetically of course) why do they believe that being circumcised makes you less of a man? It's one of those instances that they believe males that don't have cut penises are real men, while those who do are not.

Many parents are under the impression that circumcision has health benefits, therefore they get their child circumcised. Do you really believe that they are going to go around and research what has been said in the past and present? A lot of parents just take a doctor's word because it is doctor...they must know what they are talking about after 8-10 years of school.

There are other factors that play into the entire 'having an uncircumcised boy'. You need to teach the child how to properly clean himself to avoid infection, while a circumcised child...well...it's easier and faster. Practicing good hygene is probably the main concern of parents when it comes to this type of thing, and they just feel it to be in the best interest of the child to do away with something that really isn't needed.

Woot! I inspired a topic!!

Personally (and I haven't read through any of this because: 1. I already did the research before doing it to my son, and 2. I just wanna make a quick point)

Circumcision is less a religious choice and more a medical one. My wife and I are both Christian (She's more of one now that we've gotten married and had a kid) but we nipped the pee pee merely because of health reasons. She works in a hospital, and deals with old men who are not circumsized, and she tells me some pretty nasty horror stories. Plus, I didn't much like the thought of my kid having a yeast infection (Yes, MEN can get them. And it's rather common for uncircumsized men to get them) at age 12 or something.

**EDIT**
Ok, so I skimmed a little too...and there are several health benefits to it, and anyone who ever tells you there is a loss of feeling to sex when you get the foreskin removed, obviously dosen't know what they talk about. I last longer than most other guys (Maybe it IS loss of nerves, but it still feels great to me) and I'm able to consistently 'deliver' as it were. But as for pain and feeling 'less of a man'...I think that's also a load of bunk, because the only reason a person should feel less is if the actual size (Not the skin) were smaller :P

I meant that if a circumcised man starts going on about how circumcision is detrimental, he's talking about how he's unsatisfied with his penis. It's a lot easier to believe, leaving evidance for and against completely, that it doesn't make a difference. As a general rule, people will believe what it is easier to believe. Similarly I am biast because I don't want to believe that I am at greater risk of urinary tract infection. It's a particular area of insecurity for many men without raising issues over circumcision.

As a side not, Sketch, I don't appreciate being told I don't know what I'm talking about when it come to this particular area, thank you very much.

Well, Roman...are you an expert on cut and uncut men? Are you a doctor that has weighed the health benefits and losses of both sides? Have you yourself been given the choice of doing this to your child, and not letting being cut yourself factor in your ultimate decision and remain unbiased?

If so, then yes, I suppose I can't tell you that you don't know what you're talking about.

I've also heard of pretty nasty horror stories about circumcision... Nothing's ever safe in this world.

It seems obvious no one will ever agree (even doctors can't. Even after those 8-10 years of school, some will still support it, others won't). Circumcised men will of course prefer circumcision, while intact men won't.

No, but neither is your nurse wife. Unless she's a môhel, seeing old schlongs doesnt make her an expert. Guess what, when you get old, EVERYTHING looks shitty. That's just a part of being old.

Who would actually think that? It's skin. Not an organ.

Hmm..well I believe in circumsion as far as religious reasons go. I am Jewish and I was circumised as a baby. I will have the same done for my son. In Judaism, it is entering the convenant.

Where's the line drawn? Maybe another religion requires goat sacrifice to enter the covenant. Why are they unable to practice their ritual? Because its not as popular a faith?
