What was your childhood like
Sheltered. Sheltered, sheltered, sheltered. I mean, wanting to raise your kid safely is one thing, but getting appalled that your ten-year-old heard some Bob Marley at school because it has some darker and ganja-related themes is just ridiculous.
This changed when I went to boarding school and I stopped being socially retarded, but really now.
What T.V. shows did you watch
Ninja Turtles! Later, Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. Freekazoid and The Moomins just started to peter out around the time when I stopped watching so much television.
The local TV station also aired subtitled Crayon Shinchan, so I watched that, too. Good stuff; still foul, but the subbing was accurate to the source material--Adult Swim just made every name dirty and added "shit," "ass," and "bastard" in between every other word to make it "mature." Not so sure how that works.
In my teenage years, I watched the NHK Taiga Dramas that the local station ran. That, and Osamu Tezuka's Blue Blink, which pre-empted Crayon Shinchan after about ten years.
What was your favorite made up character
Probably Yoshi.
What was your family like
Kind, but stern and rather conservative. You can be sheltered and still get lickins.
What was your favorite holiday
Christmas! The lights, the music, the general atmosphere... when you commercially celebrate Christmas these days, you're politically incorrect, so my adult years are painfully devoid of Christmas cheer as companies now celebrate Festivus or Suzukimas or whatever the fuck instead.
What was your favorite color
I rather liked green, though these days I'm more partial to sky blue and royal purple.
What was your favorite game
Suikoden really clicked with "making your castle better" because I also liked the part from Robinson Crusoe in which he Made His "Castle" Better. Maybe FF9 or Vanguard Bandits. They're still really up there with me, but have been since displaced by Lost Odyssey and Mother 3. Shigesato Itoi and Hironobu Sakaguchi always have had and still do have It, Kitase wants It, and Toriyama will
never have It.
If you meant toys, I really enjoyed playing with those Log Cabin wood building pieces.
I had a German Shepherd named Sasha. Some sicko who used to work for the sugar cane company and went around the island poisoning pets killed him, but he came out in the news a few years ago having died from handling those poisons over the past decade and a half. Too late for my poor dog, but at least he got what was coming to him.
My parents recently got a new German Shepherd puppy. I won't be home much anymore to see him, but I still wanted to name him Beer.
Any other memories you may have
Not really. The only thing that really sticks out is that I was pretty much an entirely clueless person until I left home.
