Childhood

Everyone has a childhood, unless of course you were genetically born from a nuclear explosion, much like a fellow and well respected member in our past time. That means that you have memories of this childhood. Talk about them here.

What was your childhood like

My childhood was pretty fun actually, my parents were never too strict, never had any serious fights with my brothers and sisters I'd wish I had never grown up!

What T.V. shows did you watch

Pretty much everything on cartoon network, especially Dragon Ball Z, I just loved that show :P.
Later Cartoon Network was removed from the channels so I switched to Nickelodeon, which came in it's place. (Back then they actually had some decent shows, today it's just fucked up..)

What was your favorite made up character

Hmm... I don't think I ever made up any characters, unless I count some of the characters I made in the Rm2k game I made when I was 7, but I can't remember their names anymore.

What was your family like

I've never had any real problems with my family, I like pretty much everyone and they like me.
Only thing I can say about them is that my 1st grandpa is dead (Don't remember anything about him) and I've never met the other one, my dad refuses to speak to him for some reason.

What was your favorite holiday

The summer vacation ofcourse, me and my family always went to sail on our ship, and usually my uncle, aunt and their children followed with their ship.
The best thing was that me and my cousin always played Pokémon Gold and Silver together (Blue and Red before those came out) it was awesome.

What was your favorite color

Yellow, and it still is.

What was your favorite game

The Legend of Zelda - The Occarina of Time
It was the first game I ever finished on my own and today it's still my favourite game of all time.

A cat that's watching me as I type this,a rabbit that died a long time ago and 2 goldfishes.

Any other memories you may have

I have a lot of memories about me and my older brother about how we used to replay episodes from DBZ with stuffed animals. :haha:
I also remember just about everything that was in Pokémon Gold, since I played it for years.

Eh, I'll bite.

What was your childhood like?
Kind of goes by that adage "No news is good news." I can't remember it all that well, which probably means there wasn't anything entirely objectionable. Unless, of course, I've repressed it all due to constant trauma. But seriously, I recall contentment and can bring up specific memories when I'm reminded of them, but for a great part of my childhood, I lived in a rural area. I didn't have many 'real-life' friends so a lot of my memories are a cloud of books, legos, television, schoolwork, and drawing. When I moved to a more suburban area I met with kids and socialized plenty, that's when my memories actually get more specific.

Which TV shows did you watch?
I can't remember all that well. I know there was cartoon network and nickelodeon. I also remember a few shows like XMen, Jonny Quest, and a ton of old Warner Bros. cartoons.

Favorite made-up character?
The name-sake for my online handle. "Vadon"

What was your family like?
Private. As a child, I had a veil of innocence to much of the going ons with my siblings, but this innocence was strengthened by a sort of unspoken rule that you don't take your family with you in your problems. In retrospect, there was a lot of tension undulating beneath the surface, but we always put on a pleasant face in 'family' company.

What was your favorite holiday?
Christmas. Gift giving and receiving and enjoying time with the family.

What was your favorite color?
Green. Bright, neon, fluorescent green. Still is.

What was your favorite game?
Dragon Warrior, Sim City, and One Must Fall 2097 for video games. Legos for favorite 'game' activity.

Any pets?
Two. We had a mutt named Mickey. A stinky dog that had some scottish terrier and who knows what else in her. She liked to run down to the farms a couple miles away and scare the cows. The other pet was a leopard gecko named ever-so-creatively 'Spotsie.'

Any other memories you have?
The family was pretty religious when I was young in that we all attended church. As the years went by and I became a teenager all of us stopped attending the church for various reasons. We now have all ended up in different places faith-wise.

What was your childhood like
Sheltered. Sheltered, sheltered, sheltered. I mean, wanting to raise your kid safely is one thing, but getting appalled that your ten-year-old heard some Bob Marley at school because it has some darker and ganja-related themes is just ridiculous.

This changed when I went to boarding school and I stopped being socially retarded, but really now.

What T.V. shows did you watch
Ninja Turtles! Later, Tiny Toons and Animaniacs. Freekazoid and The Moomins just started to peter out around the time when I stopped watching so much television.

The local TV station also aired subtitled Crayon Shinchan, so I watched that, too. Good stuff; still foul, but the subbing was accurate to the source material--Adult Swim just made every name dirty and added "shit," "ass," and "bastard" in between every other word to make it "mature." Not so sure how that works.

In my teenage years, I watched the NHK Taiga Dramas that the local station ran. That, and Osamu Tezuka's Blue Blink, which pre-empted Crayon Shinchan after about ten years.

What was your favorite made up character
Probably Yoshi.

What was your family like
Kind, but stern and rather conservative. You can be sheltered and still get lickins.

What was your favorite holiday
Christmas! The lights, the music, the general atmosphere... when you commercially celebrate Christmas these days, you're politically incorrect, so my adult years are painfully devoid of Christmas cheer as companies now celebrate Festivus or Suzukimas or whatever the fuck instead.

What was your favorite color
I rather liked green, though these days I'm more partial to sky blue and royal purple.

What was your favorite game
Suikoden really clicked with "making your castle better" because I also liked the part from Robinson Crusoe in which he Made His "Castle" Better. Maybe FF9 or Vanguard Bandits. They're still really up there with me, but have been since displaced by Lost Odyssey and Mother 3. Shigesato Itoi and Hironobu Sakaguchi always have had and still do have It, Kitase wants It, and Toriyama will never have It.

If you meant toys, I really enjoyed playing with those Log Cabin wood building pieces.

I had a German Shepherd named Sasha. Some sicko who used to work for the sugar cane company and went around the island poisoning pets killed him, but he came out in the news a few years ago having died from handling those poisons over the past decade and a half. Too late for my poor dog, but at least he got what was coming to him.

My parents recently got a new German Shepherd puppy. I won't be home much anymore to see him, but I still wanted to name him Beer.

Any other memories you may have
Not really. The only thing that really sticks out is that I was pretty much an entirely clueless person until I left home.

  • What was your childhood like
    Not that great. :/
  • What T.V. shows did you watch
Here comes the list (that proves my fatassery...): Rugrats, Doug, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Clarissa Explains it All, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo, My Little Pony n' Friends, Rainbow Bright, Bill Nye the Science Guy, Kratt's Creatures, Ghost Writer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tiny Toon Adventures, Loony Toons, KaBlam, Tom and Jerry, Kenan and Kel, All That, Pokemon, The Simpsons

And before you ask...yes, I watched those all fairly equally. Although I'll admit that Rainbow Bright, MLPnF and TMNT were mostly limited to a few VHS tapes I had. Didn't stop me from watched them goddamned near everyday, though.
  • What was your favorite made up character
Hmm.... Tough choice. I've always definitely been a Yoshi fan, probably before pokemon came out, but when Pokemon *did* come out I was hit pretty hard with pokemania. Eh, what the hell, I'll go with Yoshi anyway.
  • What was your family like
    Insane.
  • What was your favorite holiday
Thanksgiving, actually... The warm house, the smells, everyone getting together to squeeze into a table meant for six to gorge themselves with turkey...good memories.
  • What was your favorite color
Red! Good god, I once asked my dad to paint my room red. I begged him to do it. He compromised (and surprised me!) one day by painting two walls red. Gah.
  • What was your favorite game
Tough pick... In terms of play time probably Mortal Kombat II, GoldenEye, or Super Mario World... But if I've got roughly a ~12 year timeline to pick from I think I'll go with Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
  • Any pets
My dad/grandparents had a Samoyed named Sammie. Little bugger died when I was three from twisted stomach. :( They also had an asshole Persian named Jasmine. S/he got hit by a car (I think it was actually a he...O_o;). He also had a fishtank that had an Angelfish that lived for like...eight years or something O_o

My mum, on the other hand, had an awesome dalmation named Shady Lady, who we had to give away when she moved. Beyond that, she had this weird obsession with cats. She collected the damn things like groceries - "Oops, we're all out of cat, better go to the store for another." So there was Czar first, an asshole Russian Blue who not only tried to kill infant me on several occasions but marked my dollhouse as his, as well as hating basically everyone in the family. Then there was Chaucer, this amazing fatass who was the sweetest thing on Earth, who lived with several other cats in succession. There was Midnight, who ran away, and the last cat my mom had was Kitten, another damned Russian Blue, who also hated everyone and everything. I like cats, but dear god, what is the point of "having" a cat if all they do is hide under the couch and scowl?

And then I, personally, had a hamster named Johnny. Little bastard bit me so hard I spent like a half hour at the sink and I still have the scar. Also had a chameleon named - wait for it - Khameleon. He died.

    Eh.
