Character's Picture behind text

My question is:

How do you place a picture behind a text box?

I want it to look something like this...

I'm using the Letter by Letter text boxes by Slipknot, if that makes any difference.
I tried doing it from my noob knowledge and I ended up with a picture behind the box, but it had the white background of the picture too that overlayed the map. I just want the character to show, while everything else on the picture is transparent so you could see the map as shown in the spoiler box.

Can anyone help? Thanks

Thats actually the noob knowledge method I used that I spoke of. When I do that though, it has the white part of the whole rectangular picture behind the character that I don't want. It covers up parts of the map. I want it to be transparent and only showing the character.

Here, this is what it looks like when I do it.

Yeah, I see that method working when I use the preset Battler pictures. But for some reason, when I use a saved picture, it still shows white spots around the border of the character. Is my problem just me saving the wrong picture?

EDIT: Nevermind, I see where I went wrong. Thank you for your help :)
