Character sprite commission costs?

I was wondering what kind of price range I'd be looking at if I was to commission somebody to make some character sprite sheets. I can't really flesh out any specific details on what I'm wanting exactly. So with that said, any information on how that kind of business model works would be appreciated.

It really depends on the person. Many people will do at least some work for free-- the "Resource Requests" section of this site handles such things.
