Character Disappear after Dying.

Hello everyone, I'd really appreciate your help.. I hope I'm not in the wrong spot here.

Anyways, I'm making a cutscene with RPGMVX and I have set it to where one of the characters uses a special battle effect on the other in which it is supposed to kill him. The only problem is that when the attack hits him he simply stands there and does not disappear when I place a personal switch on him to do so.

Maybe I am not using the right kind of switch, and if I am or aren't then please help me in order to make him disappear, or even better yet, where do I get a graphic of him laying flat face down on the ground. (falls.)

I appreciate your help in advance, and if I'm in the wrong spot then how do I move this post?

By personal switch do you mean the Self Switches? In that case your best bet is to use a regular switch. Personal switches can only be controlled within the event itself.

First, is the processing for the cutscene within the event that is getting attacked, or a separate one? If it's within the event getting attacked, when you turn on the switch, you have to start the event's processing again on the new page. If it's a separate event, simply turnin gon a regular switch should go.

Alternately (and this is probably easier) you can just use an event command that will change his graphic. If you want a sprite of him laying face down you're going to have to get the sprite via Resource Requests or make it yourself.

Is that clear? (I'm not always the best at explaining things...)

Yes, I meant self switches. If I make it a seperate event to make him disappear, then how do I synchronize it to take place AFTER he is attacked? After all they will be two separate events so how do I link them to happen one after the other? I've looked at many switches tutorials but none of them seem to be easily comprehensive. Yes, what you are saying is clear. Thanks for your help in advance.

I'm going to assume that where you have all the event commands (turning the switches on, showing the animation, etc.) is separate from the event getting attacked (we'll call it Event A). The event getting attacked (Event B) should have two pages-one with him normal, another with him laying down, correct? The page with him laying down should be turned on by a switch, not a self switch. This is so it can be turned on outside the event. In Event A's processing, when he gets attacked, turn on the switch that activates Event B's second page. This should change his sprite.

If that doesn't work, try just changing the graphic through a "Set Movement" event.

The dialogue between him and the other man the one that kills him is in the same event as the attack and the spell hitting the receiving character. They are all one event. What do I separate and...

When I add switch A to the main event (dialogue, attack, hit) how do I make the event of him disappearing (When I make it and when make it separate) activate and how do I make it activate AFTER the main event (right after he is attacked.) In other words how do I link the two events using switches to make them happen as a chain reaction?

I hope this isn't confusing haha, thanks for your help.

Erm, I'm a bit confused. You shouldn't have to switch events at all, they can all happen in the same one. If you want I'll make a demo or something for ya (somehow I think that'd be easier) Seeing it in action is usually easier than explaining it anyway.

Wow, yes please! That'd be very awesome of you, if you have the time, I'd really appreciate it. If you can, please make the demo specific to my problem, as far as making the character disappear after he is hit with the special effect onscreen in the same event block. Also if you can explain in plain english exactly how to use switches and variables.. I hope that's not too much to ask, if you are willing I'd be very grateful. I've always wanted to create a game of my own and it's hard to with so much to learn.

Very kind of you indeed.

wow thanks! This is a really neat tutorial demo thing lol. I only have one problem. once I set it to where he will disappear after he is attacked, I playtest it and right in the middle of the attack hits him it freezes! everytime. hmm....

any idea why this is happening?

Thanks again. Very well put together demo

Alright! Here you go.. just walk foreward across the bridge in front of you, and it will trigger the event.

Thanks again, I hope you can figure it out.

That was really bizarre. I tried a bunch of stuff and nothing that should've worked did. It's done that sometimes in some of my projects. I dunno, I guess the program sometimes decides to act crappy. :P

ANYWAY I managed to stop the freezing! :D It's a bit complicated, but when the player touches the event, that will activate a Common Event-an event that can be summoned ANYWHERE in the game. After the event finished, I turned on a switch that signified the event had finished. This in turn deactivated the event that reacted to the player's touch.

HOPEFULLY that'll work for now. I have to go, but if you have any problems tomorrow let me know.

Here ya are!

em.. THANKS! IT works perfect! only.. I don't understand exactly how you did it lol, when you get on tomorrow, please let me know, also in place of all my event dialogue and reactions it says call common event... how does this work and how does my cutscene still work how I made it to if the stuff isn't there only call common event? lol.

Thanks a million, you're a great help.

talk to you tomorrow!

Drerius.
