Character art

Just posting a picture of one of my characters.

I tried to make it look sort of cartoony, but couldn't get it right..
I'm still new to this so give me some tips if you wish.

I may add some more later on...

the contrast of gradients are far too much to be cartoony. you can counter this by leveling it a bit. Also the colours are really dull, I would add more variety to them. The linearent arent too bad, though the anatomy has issues like the thickness of his thighs and arm muscles

Archer, he said he WANTED it to be cartooney.

Anyaway, adding to the anatomy thing, you might want to fix his pose, as some parts, mainly his arms, look weird. You made it look like the left arm is coming from his back and his right arm from his chest. Other than that, I think the colors are fine. It's all just based on the type of game and style.

It's sorta hard to distinguish his right arm from his body. The colours may be too dark, so try increasing the contrast in the arm (mainly the arm) so that there's a clear difference between it and the chest.

Do you read properly? What does this mean to you: the contrast of gradients are far too much to be cartoony

Kinda ironic, because you are accusing me of misreading while you are misreading yourself.

Okay, forget the cartoonyness...
I had thick lines around him to give a cell-shaded look.
Besides being too dark, does it still look fine as a regular picture?

I removed the lines and brightened him up a little. Does it look better with the thick lines, or no?

Anyway, about his thickness, are you saying he is too thin? He is supposed to be sort of lanky looking. He is a cyborg(Which is why he is so thin and has claws for hands) that claims to be an actor, to hide what he really is.

theres a few things i want to address here. Firstly, you need to keep in mind where your light source is coming from. you have got some inconsistency in the highlights and shading here. Saturation must be consistent as well, unless - of course - if you have a damned good reason for it!
There are also a few anatomical errors in it as well... like for example the legs seem to be different lengths, the knees in different places and, on the largely bent leg, the lower half of the leg it seems to bend.... i dunno about you, but my leg bones arent bendy :P

Personally, i dont have any issues with the colouring other than to keep the saturation consistent across the palette

Hope it helps :D
