Chara style for my game.

I've done a lot of pixel art before, but it was mostly in edits and restructuring. This is my first real dive into making original stuff- and I'm trying to develop a style to use in my upcoming game.

I'd love some opinions and feedback on these, thank you.

ADDITIONALLY...

Anyway, here are some more. The original two guys have also been edited a bit (Donovan has eyebrows and Gavin has a pointier hat) I'd definitely love more solid feedback.

Now, I have some progress. This is the (hopefully) completed sprite for Gavin. I've tested him in RMXP and something seems off with his turning (I'm not so sure, but the jump from facing forward to facing sideways seems awkward). I wasn't going to share publically any full sprites, but I really need some help.

I ask that you try him in a game and play with him as a bit, just tell me if it looks/feels natural or not- and give me advice if you can think of any. Thank you so much for doing this for me.

Note that this uses the old style of the side-view. I want to see if I can get away with it when the characters are fully clothed, so I don't have to remake all the templates.

I really like the style- I'm a fan of cuter stuff. My only real complaint is that the big eyes might make them look too...anime-ish, although that's a personal choice.

I really like the harder black outlines- but will it fit with current tilesets, or are you planning on making tilesets yourself as well?

Good luck,
Serenade

I really like the first one, with the hat, the second one looks like he has a hige jaw, and it doesnt look good. I am assuming the fartherest to the right is the template.

That said, I really like them , alot. But I will withold final judgement till I see a few more sprites of different charcters to see how they all look together ^^

I really like them. The black outline makes it even more cartoonish and lets the characters stand out. If tilesets had to be made for these I would definetely create a game with them.

He's supposed to have a huge jaw. He also has broader shoulders if you look. I want to give each character features more than simply hair and clothing, it's something that I hope will further set the graphical style apart from others. Most games have pretty standard cut-and-paste sprites that lack personality.

That said, do you have any suggestions on making the big jaw look better?

Well, I do have to make a bunch for my game (ten main characters plus NPCs and Villains). I'll be sharing them as I work- at least the first few, so I know that I'm doing things right.

I'm glad people like them so far.

Those are pretty awsome, i would use those in a game if I were a character disisgner. The anime look is really cool, it would be awsome to see a battle of one of those characters. I really like them.

Awesome Bro

I agree with Hydrolic about the nice combination, but the second screenie is miss-leading. The RTP sprite seems to fit better as there is an effect over the top of it, so it naturally blends better with the map. Although, I feel if the same effect was hovered over your sprite, it would work a charm!

If you're interested in promoting this sprite upon completion, I'd be more than happy to advertise it alongside my RTP re-make ( which you can find here ).

If you are interested, send an e-mail to St3v0@glass-jaw.co.uk, or alternatively, PM me.

Take care,

I like it. I think it makes them stand out really nicely. Are we going to get a template any time soon?

I too, would love to have the template. I don't have a project right now that could really use this type of sprite, but I absolutely love the looks and would have a lot of fun playing with it (like editing the eyes to be small dots).

I feel the same way I am one hudred percent admiment that I will create a game with this template and stevo's tilesets. It all just feels and looks so right together and screams 'Amazing classic RPG'

I'm sorry, everyone. I don't want to release these sprites until after my game is finished (I plan to release the final version unencrypted, although demos will be encrypted to keep you waiting for more). The reason is because I want my game to really stand out, and if other people use my graphics, my game won't seem as special. I'm sorry.

(although my template's front position is posted in the first post- you can crop him out and play with him, but the full template will remain mine)

Although, those tilesets made by $t3v0 really do look cool. When will you be doing more (I especially need the port town and the ship sets). I'd definitely use those if you did the whole RTP soon. And in return, I'd work out a deal with you with my sprites if you'd like. Those sets are too good to pass up. They fit with my style brilliantly.

Anyway, here are some more. The original two guys have also been edited a bit (Donovan has eyebrows and Gavin has a pointier hat) I'd definitely love more solid feedback.
