Catherine

The game Catherine is very much like the persona 3 and 4. Same art and music. Vincent had a cameo appearance in the psp persona 3 game. Just like persona 4 there are mysterious murders and at night Vincent finds himself in a nightmarish dream world. However, Catherine is not an rpg its more of a puzzle game. Instead of fighting floors of monsters your goal is to reach the top of a giant sliding block tower puzzle. Each stage is a reflection of Vincent's fears and relevant to the story, for example he finds out his girlfriend is pregnant so there's a stage where he's being chased up the tower by a giant zombie baby. During the day, instead of being in highschool like the persona games your are in a bar.
The main theme revolves around commitment, marriage and love affairs. Instead of saving the world, Vincent is out to save himself.
Murder mystery aside, Vincent finds himself in a love affair between his girlfriend of 5years Katherine and the bubbly blonde Catherine.

Release date is July 26.
The "love is over" deluxe edition comes with Pizza box filled with T-shirt(worn by Catherine), boxers(worn by Vincent), and pillowcase. Preordering the game gets you a bonus sound cd and artbook. I ordered mine last night.

I'm looking forward to this just because it seems to keep the same style as Persona 3 and 4 (which I enjoyed A LOT). Hopefully it doesn't suck badly though, as the game's story seems pretty risky from a selling-perspective.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the story. I have to question what audience Atlus is targeting. Its seems like an adult game; and by adult I mean the emotional mature kind. But is plastering a pin-up girl over everything going to attract anything more then straight men? It looks like softcore porn to me. I think it'll attract more guys expecting sex, then people who would appreciate the mature themes involved.

Yeah, I've heard so much about this and I'm kind of interested in it but I can't see asking my mum to get me a game with a cover like that not being extremely awkward. :x

EDIT: and then I watched the trailer and I'm kinda eh about the whole thing anyway :/

Pftt that's what I meant. Anyways, I played the demo yesterday, it was short and the puzzles were quite easy but then again the difficulty was on Easy and it's just a demo. From what I have read though the game is very difficult and can be annoying for people who don't like that kind of stuff. Gameplay might turn some off since it seems to be just all about block puzzles but for me that's okay. Definitely looking forward to this game after playing the demo.

I got my preorder in the mail today. The artbook is a joke, its the size of the game manual and pretty much just character profiles in English and French with a teeny tiny picture on the side. The sound track is tucked in on the back cover. I was expecting an actual book filled with concept art and design sketches.

So far the game has been fun. I'm playing on normal mode and died plenty of times. At the second stage and I haven't seen any new story developments that the game trailers haven't already shown me. My one complaint so far it the volume change during scenes, when it's an animated scene it's loud so I'll turn down the volume then it'll switch to a 3d scene and it's too quite so I'll have to turn it back up.

Is the game worth the current price tag?

It seems fun (especially the multi player).. And its more then alone puzzles I heared somewhere.

A lot of Atlus games are hard to come by. Idk if their rarity is because they are such great games or if they purposely produce their games in small numbers. Catherine might be one of those games where in 5 years it's still $50 with 1 or 2 copies in stock.
Who knows?
