( Card battle based idea)

First, I would like to note that the plot and characters right now are a bit more filler than anything, the main point i'm trying to get critiqued and feedback on is the means of battle i'm trying to use. As I would enjoy feedback on all of this, the most important to me right now is my proposed mechanics.



BASIC (in the works) PLOT

I private detective and his mechanical wizz parter have been out of a job for quite some time, until one day they receive a letter from the baron over the territory that he is in need of their services after a precious heirloom is stolen from him. Through their venture, the detective and his assistant uncover much more than they anticipated. Twists of murder, betrayal, secrets and alchemy all play a role in their fate. Tarot cards play a large role in the world from healing to invetion and utility, to war.



SOME CHARACTERS


Xander - The lead character, a private detective whos business was once booming, now faces putting his sleuthing days behind him.

Clair - Xander's assistant, very talented in mechanical steam engineering, she has gizmos that no one else does.

The Baron - an answer to xander and clair's prayers.. or is he?

Sir Waterford - The prime engineer of his day, has been accused of the theft of a precious artifact from the baron's estate.

More characters in later update.



GAMEPLAY

The gameplay will be comprised of ventures through the allied territories, as well as travel through time. Searching for clues to unravel this every growing mystery. Different terrain, dungeons, puzzles, side-quests and other challenges await. There will be tarot shops to buy new decks and booster packs to up your abilities.

As far as battle, Xander prefers to use tarot cards and a hidden blade in his favorite cane. Equipping different decks gives xander and his other party members different cards to use in a battle. Members can also equip armors and weapons. Booster packs can be used in battle to replentish your cards available and also may give you a rare card which will summon a special attack.

This would be nice, except for the fact that it is a complete knock-off of yu-gi-oh! duelist kingdom. If you want to make a yu-gi-oh! fan game, just say so, but please do not insult our intelligence by merely changing characters' names.
 
Hah, well yeah it's just a place holder. I'm sure anyone between 15 and 20 could tell thats like yugioh. I was actually thinking I might use more of a detective story, old school-ish. That was just a place holder. Because I couldnt just slap the mechanics on here and say hey heres a game.


I really just wanted comments on what people thought of the card idea. I'm advancing the idea of how they are used, but just want to get it in a workable position before I start making the game.


Also, I modified the story and characters parts to my working idea.
 
I think you have the great beginnings of a concept here. While what you've depicted to us, hopefully, isn't all that you have in your creative mind, I'm curious to see where this goes. I like the idea of implementing a card game into a steam-punk detective story. With the right blend of mechanics and narrative you could really pull it off. Keep designing it man and good luck.
