Can't open rmxp?

Well, I recently got myself a new laptop (woot!) so I began moving everything from my old, slow computer to my the new laptop. Unfortunately, I seem to be having some trouble with rpgxp. I downloaded the trial off the internet (and then I'll enter in my code, when it LETS me), but I cant open it. Whenever I open it, it says "failed to obtain trial serial from the n Titles server" and closes.

I have tried reinstalling it. I even deleted the folders and downloaded the trial from a different mirror and reinstalled again. I'm not sure how to fix it. =P

I would really like to start working on my game again, can anyone help me?

That problem usually occurs when people try to run RPG Maker XP on Vista. Does your new laptop use Vista?

It's a common problem with Vista, I had it too. Glitchfinder made this awesome tutorial that fixed the problem. Hope it works

That answers my problem where my friend couldnt play the game i made cuz he had vista, maybe. (Vista Sux)

For some reason, every time I try to get music to play, the game just freezes up.

This is problematic for obvious reasons,though I can bear to make games without it, not able to playtest music is a bit of a hassle. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Which music? Is it the default music? (If it is, is it the BGMs, BGSs, MEs, or SEs?) If it isn't, what type of file is it?

BGMs, BGSs, and MEs. SEs work.

Both RTP and imported songs/BGS/ME freeze up the rmxp.

If SEs and BGSs didn't work, I would say your problem was with your computer having trouble playing OGG files. What filetype are the imported audio files? (On a side note, if SEs work, so should BGSs) Also, do you mean freeze up as in "I have to close it because it doesn't work", or "There is a pause before playing"?

This is Vista, right? You might want to check your codecs. If I remember correctly, Vista has some issues with certain codecs, both audio and video. (At one point, I had to close the explorer every time I opened a folder with a .mkv file in it. Go figure) The thing is, those problems may not show up with the default players, but with something like RMXP instead. Oh, and I had a problem at one point that I solved by finding the option "Play only digital audio" or something to that effect, and making sure it was on.

i hate to necropost if i am, but whenever i try to play the game at all on my new vista laptop, it just freezes, test play or anything. i get no message, i have downloaded the two DLL files that have been explained

EDIT: when i use the battle test it does the entering battle sound but nothing else- also it will load other games, an example is spinels core.
