Can a president still get shot?

"Can a president still get shot" was something I asked my self today.

In my english class, my professor brought up the debates and her views on it. When she was done, on lovely student said "Oh, I'm not gonna vote for obama because he's black and their just gonna shoot him if he wins *class laughs and agrees*"

This pissed me off. Fortunately, Im not the type of person to simply voice my anger but It had me thinking why do people still think like that. 

I mean its one thing not to vote for someone because you disagree with their views, but to go against them just because of some racist shit is ridiculous. I mean honestly, If the man does good in office and still ends up getting sniped I wouldn't know what to think.


...so I would like your views on this.

well, his chances of getting assassinated are more likely then McCain.  But Obama does seem more suited than McCain. McCain seems like just another Bush. My vote is still for Obama.

Either way, we should make sure the vice president is a good choice.  Not to sound evil, but McCain is old and has the chance of dieing naturally, and there are still some radical racists who would want to kill Obama.  Either way, not voting for someone just because you think they'd be assassinated is stupid.  Unless they're dieing during the election, possible death shouldn't be a factor.

But shooting Obama will only make him more powerful... That and whoever the gunman is will have it ten times harder than John Wilkes Booth...

I am honestly worried about Obama's safety if he gets elected. Even if you leave off racist extremists, he is the most radical candidate since Kennedy and there are powerful and completely amoral people in the far right, as well as independent nuts. The security situation is no better in this country than it was in Kennedy's time IMO. If anything, it is worse as a culture of individual social responsibility has been replaced by surveillance and proactive policing, which is never proven to be effective policy. Furthermore this country is in a really bad place psychologically, which lends to extremism and violence. We have a lot of people just coming back from very traumatic experiences, and I don't mean to imply that we should be afraid of or disparaging of veterans in saying this, but people with military or paramilitary experience, a history of trauma, and a deep opposition to a prevailing social or political movement have been proven to be dangerous in the past. We have international terrorist organizations growing in power, influence, and membership due to our poor handling of foreign affairs.

There are a lot of angles of attack, and I think assassination is a real concern even for McCain. We can only hope that the people defending the president continue to do an excellent job, regardless of who gets elected, and that the elected president does an exceptional job in repairing the problems that put them at extraordinary personal risk both domestically and abroad.

I think an assassination would cross the line, most Americans have had enough with all the shit that has gone on in America anyway. But if someone is so Racist that the don't believe an African American can run the country.... We have been tring whites for along time, and that has only gotten us into the hole we are in now ,it is time to try something different.

What's the difference again?  I'd much rather have Biden in office than Palin, since Joe seems to know what he's doing while Palin is about as dyslexic as Bush.  Someone that knows all the talking points, but doesn't understand them and simply believes in them blindly (as evidenced by her interview a couple weeks ago) is a danger to everyone.

anyway, what with the recent bru-ha-ha that palin and mccain rallies have been churning up (crowd members shouting out words like "treason", "terrorist", and "kill him") in reaction to their ridiculous, and very non-subtle notions that he's a terrorist by the GOP, it's apparent that the nutjobs are coming out. there's no telling what will happen.

Suppose a guys middle name is Jackson, Does that mean he is gonna be a pedaphile? No. Not voting for someone just because of their middle name is just as childish as not voting for someone just because of their race.
