Call of Duty: Black Ops

I'm pretty sure we've all heard enough hype about this from the scores of pre-pubescent kids who plan on buying it (fyi, the "m" means "moms approve!!11!), but I'd like to see what the anticipation is around here.

I'm not sure about the multiplayer; hopefully Treyarch can fix all the features IW screwed up in MW2. The customization looks pretty promising I guess, especially the emblem editor. Treyarch's goal of discouraging camping is pretty admirable to me, and the fact that they removed stopping power from the perks list is gonna force some people to actually make some creative setups.

Zombies are set to return, and I'm definitely excited here. My prediction is that zombies is gonna be more objective based rather than pure survival (though i believe there could be a separate mode for this), something like L4D's point A to point B missions. If you've seen some of the promo stuff, the zombie outbreak takes place on an island, inside a large facility.

Single player looks just as exciting as all the previous CoD games, and I'm pretty anxious to play it. I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few people who actually care about this but w/e.

I'm gonna say the same thing I say with most CoD releases nowadays.
It's broken, it just is....
You're gonna get a short campaign,
and the multiplayer filled with pre-pubescent kids that "pwn-n00bs"
and they want you to play with that until the next one comes out a year later

it's sad really :/

I couldn't care less about this game.
It's the same with the last one really, it's been so insanely overhyped, I mean it's probably a good game but it's nothing special imo.
Plus they release new games way to fast so I doubt much has changed since the last.
But maybe I'm wrong and this really is one of the best games ever...I doubt it.

I don't get people like this...

You're judging the quality of a game based on the people that play it... I mean, you could say the same for just about any FPS game ever made, there's always small children screaming online, which is why they've added a mute button you know, I mean, people don't call Halo online terrible, why not? It's got less customisation and weapon options, and there's just as many kids screaming at you...

The game itself actually looks quite good, I mean, I loved World at War, Treyarch are really good with their narratives (Loved the Russian missions in it...), and I think IW pretty much nailed the online with Modern Warfare 2, as much as some people would hate to admit because it's "cool" to dislike Call of Duty these days, but the online worked, it was good, it was a nice fast paced shooter with lots of customisation, and where it shined, Black Ops looks to outshine it with even more customisation, different perks and weapons etc.

Oh and also, for the first time in a Call of Duty game, the main character talks, and apparently doesn't shut up...

I'll be buying this game at some point, not straight away, but somewhere down the line, because I love how the singleplayer in Treyarch Call of Duty games play, along with the gore which I've heard is back (Shooting limbs off with an LMG or shotgun does NOT get old) and you can have buckets of fun with the zombie mode, which is ALSO back.

tl;dr

Haters gonna' hate.

Right, the reason that people hate call of duty now is because it's cool to hate. It has nothing to do with the fact that MW2 was the most expensive games (at least to PC) to come out in a long time (besides AION, which I believe came out a bit sooner) and also happened to be one of the shortest. It has nothing to do with the fact that, since Modern Warfare, the games have been getting shorter and more expensive. It has nothing to do with the fact that Call of Duty used to be the premier linear story driven FPS and now the only thing that it has (or at least thinks it has) is multiplayer. (Hmm, too bad I can find better multiplayer for free in games like Insurgency)

This is why I dislike FPS's in general....

nothing will ever top CoD4's campaign, but i'm sure Black Ops will be better than MW2. they'd have to actively try and sabotage the game for it to not be.

that said, fuck if i'm buying it anytime soon, especially since it'll almost definitely be $60 at launch like MW2. i'll wait for some kind of steam sale, or buy it used in a few months off of amazon.

I have to agree with Teloch here. I mean, World at War's campaign (atleast the Russian part) was superb, even though I don't think Treyarch handled the multiplayer portion well, but COD4's campaign is something I still go back and play.

I've played the campaign and beat it now. It's pretty sweet, and just as action packed as the previous CoD titles. The zombie modes are superb to say the least, but they're also a good bit harder than those in WaW, so be ready for a challenge.

The multiplayer has had changes for the better, but there's some serious balancing issues right now; the AK74u overpowers just about everything right now, and the RC car's kill radius is WAAAY too large. Also, while it's not Treyarch's fault, the MP is filled to the brim with campers. I'm not sure what brought that on, but be warned: you're going to have to adapt a more defensive playstyle if you want to do well.
