To sail to sinnoh:

I'm assuming you're in Kanto? Find Vermillion City (Diglett's cave -> route 11 -> left one map), pay $50, choose sail, choose the fourth one. The NPC will be right there waiting for you.

I think he's in Hoenn going by the Marshtomp & no trading pass. Go to Slateport (when you click on a new map, go to the url and replace the name of the map with slateport and it will zap you there) and then go to the item shop and by a ferry ticket, then choose the 4th one.

Is there any way to make money early in the game besides waiting / the bank? I could barely afford the Poké Flute & one Great Ball to catch Snorlax.

Any time you train stats, do beauty. Once you reach max (a week or so idk) you'll have a chance of getting 1k per day per pokemon.

You could also have gotten mespirit and uxie. They all need the red chain.
