NEWS:
3/29/2008 - I was planning on making more sprites than these before opening up my workshop, yet since Spring Break has come to a close, I've decided to post what I have now and then add more as I go along. Personally, I don't like the "Boy 1" sprite(especially the hair), yet I am not sure exactly how I should fix it. This is my first time making sprites with the Breeze template(or any other template for that matter). Any comments or criticsm is appreciated.

Yeah, I was using the sword as a filler. And I was trying to refrain from shading the sprites too much since Breeze sprites aren't shaded as much as RTP. Guess I shaded too little -.-'. I'll shade the sword a little more.

That's actually a common misperception. Breeze sprites should be shaded with a full amount of detail. However, the palettes used for Breeze are more stylized, which leads to the distinctive Breeze 'look'.

For the girl, I'd recommend shading the hair to be more detailed, as well as adding some selout.

For the boy, I'd recommend just redoing the whole hair, paying attention to how your reference sprite is made. It's not just a giant blob with a part in the middle.
Also, the shorts look a little pillowshaded. (I might be wrong - I haven't opened it up in an editor and zoomed in, but I think they are)

Hello,
Be sure to use the correct coding in the title if this is to be used for Breeze Revolutions.

Gratheo is quite correct. I was gonna say pretty much the same thing. I really should not show this, but this is one frame of a character in my game I made, this is "detail" on breeze. However I have a nasty habit of gradient shading the hair which I'm trying to fix. Anyways here is that sprite I just was talking about. I made it from a blank template and about 3-4 different color palettes.

@ Gratheo: Thanks Gratheo. I'll add a few more colors to my pallette so I can shade the girl more, and I'll try the boy's hair again. I should probably take a look at some of the pallettes too. Btw, do you mean the shorts on the boy or the girl?
@ Averax: Oh, yeah I forgot about the title; Added it now. I took a look at your sprite's hair. It looks like you used 5 colors to shade it. I'll add more to mine, and probably modify the ones I'm using currently. (since they look dull compared to yours)

Thanks for the feedback; I'll update the sprites next week probably.

I'm one of the few people who actually uses a 7 color palette. Highlight, Midlight, Lowlight, Base, Cast Shadow, Shadow, Outline. Basically it takes the base color, and incease it by 25%, 50%, 75%, -25%, -50%, -75%. Which gets the tones I need, as opposed to dividing the color percentage by 3/4ths per shade higher or lower.

Hmmm, very interesting work you've got here. You will definitely have to change Boy #1's hair though.

It's missing that characteristic shine. Breeze hair normally has a half Halo of the lightest Shade on the hair color palette that gives it that Cartoony-Chibi feeling, and I think your missing that. Normally one half of the halo is on the lower left of the hair and on the top right (If you can get it that far). What I suggest you do is look at the mini tutorial Green Raven made about hair and Light source direction and you should be set. Here, let me give you the link!

Just scroll down and open up the Examples tab in the Main post, and you'll see the little mini hair tutorial.

Hope this helps!
