I don't think it would be too painful...
Apart from female genitals, its the fastest healing area of the body, usually fully healed within 3-4 weeks.

Got loads of needles and practice skins, going to do heaps of practicing before I start on myself.
I'll be doing my upper legs first, it's an easy area to access.
I don't like leg tattoos personally, but it's an easy area to do first, also if I can't tattoo myself, why should other people let me practice on them?
I also think it will be good to learn about depths of the skin, I'll be able to feel how hard or light I'm going.
