i didn't see how i could to make it look... good... so i kinda just slightly highlighted the spikes a little.

It looks kinda like its been 'blobbed' on
you should shade it darker in response to the way that the hair is moving
If you need help there are some hair shading tutorials around or you could look at the rtp sprites and get some ideas
The shading helps define the 'character' of the hair, wether its straight, puffy or what have you
Also you might also consider adding shading to the clothes as well to help give it a better feel.
Other than that it is quite well done. (love the patterned shirt btw )

When you sprite hair, you need to divide it into blocks or sections. In other words, you need to show that there are strands in the hair. Otherwise, it just looks like a blob sitting on top of a bald head.

Here, try Tana's tutorial. It has a specific section on spriting hair.

The character design is nice, it just needs to be polished a little
