Best file hosting service?

A simple request for opinions. I thought this would lead to vigorous debate, so I posted here.

I'm currently using Photobucket for images, but what about game files or similar content? Seems to me that the people on this site report issues with all file hosting services at one point or another. What I've been able to gather so far is blatantly obvious to most anyone:

1. Resgistering to download = bad.
2. Free hosting is more desirable for the frugal.
3. Duration of retention is a consideration.
4. Amount of data stored is a consideration.
5. Service reliability and availablity.

So - anyone willing to come out and commit to vouching for a particular service over all the others? I'd even settle for strong negative recommendations to steer me away from the losers.

Inquiring minds want to know.

The only good freeone I know of (knew of) was box.net, and other than that freepgs. Both were fantastic. Freepgs is gone with the dodo and box.net is something different now or something?

I hear mediafire is good.

Megaupload and Rapidshare are the bane of the Internet.
