Beowulf

Of course it shames the book. Everyone imagines the book differently, ex. I imagined his Mother as a giant ghostly monster, not whats her name...
And Eragon did suck as a movie, I mean the dragon grows up instantly? what is that?

I hope it shames. I would've watched it if I could stay awake - which was no fault of the movie, I just have to learn to sleep like a normal frikkin' human being.

I didn't make it threw the coming attractions - not even the real ones. Those ones where the lights are still on and it's like advertisement for TV. I feel asleep then. But everyone I saw, never read the poem/story/whatever you call it. They all know of it though. They all liked it. It's not "great" and looked "very Barbie", but supposably it was a good flick if you watch it for what it is. Another fantasy action flick that's more pizzaz than substance.

If by "pull an Eragon" you are implying that they turned a good book into a bad movie, I hate to be the one to break it you, but...

The Eragon book sucked just as much as the movie.

ROFL, I wouldn't say that the Eragon book sucked as much as the movie, but yeah, it definately sucked =P It's just, nothing can touch the sheer sucking power of the movie. The book was just a generic high fantasy "Star Wars with elves." The movie is only watchable thanks to MST3000's Rifftrax, and even then it was painful.

I read both the original Beowulf (English class, of course), and read a comic based on it (Which was one of the most metal comics I had ever read). Unfortunately, this movie doesn't look to be based on either one =P I was excited when I first heard about it, but now it's just another movie I could do without. Seems like they tried to make Beowulf another Leonidas; in fact, it seems like all they wanted was another 300 with this movie.

I watched the movie recently and it wasn't too bad. There just wasn't enough action and it was too short. Judging by the ending, they'll most likely make a sequel.

Eragon's good if you happen to be twelve, but it has a snowball's chance in hell against the same standards you guys treat RPGs with.

Also, I wanna see Beowulf. Too young, but I have dreams!

All together now!

Personally, I liked the book. It dragged in places, and Beowulf wasn't very likable ("LOOK AT ME I AM SO GREAT,") but the text had this... Rhythmic quality. If you ever read Beowulf, read along under your breath and you'll see what I mean.

Saw Beowolf......Nice CGI but the story is kinda...You know Just dumps you off there at the end.For example what happend to his friend.Did he live or die.Is it still a cycle or what..I dont really enjoy these kind of movies but, I stayed for ohh and aweee CGI

Edit:Maybe Beowolf shouldn't nake a 2nd Beowolf are whatever it's gonna be called cause It kinda just ohh and awed us with CGI.Nice job Beowolf Promoters don't just Use your CGI to lure us in. Maybe you should try getting some good ideas for movies once in a while. Anyways im just ranting. So continue on with the fourm searching people's.

Am I insane for having come away from the film feeling like it was a parody of the poem, or am I the sanest man you've ever known? I more or less went into it expecting a sort of black comedy rather than an epic fantasy film, so maybe I wasn't so abashed by it for that reason. I mean, this exchange alone made it abundantly clear to me that the film was lampooning some aspects of the story:

::): How many sea monsters were there?
8): Nine.
::): I'd expected twenty one.
:-\: Last time I heard it, it was six.

Paraphrased, mainly for the numbers, but that's the gist of it. I noticed (or imagined) a strong theme that history is subjective, and that what we hear in old stories is probably only a fraction of what actually occurred. The thought that this great hero was actually a flawed, slightly loony person with a talent for lying to people amused me very much.
