Beowulf

I saw the trailer to this movie yesterday, and it looks spectacular.

Trailer found here^

When I first saw it, I thought I was live action. But after a second time, I noticed it was infact CGI'd, which really caught my interest.

Anyone here gonna watch the movie? What are your opinions on it? etc. etc.

Is it gonna destroy the Beowulf I know? O.O I dunno if I want to watch it, I'm so used to reading the epic (and I quite liked it) so I think seeing it on screen would be a bit odd, of course. But, if I get the chance, I probably will go see it and squirm at bloody parts.

Hmm, I don't know. I had to do a literary analysis on the poem for school this past summer, and I didn't really enjoy reading it that much. As a historical piece, it's pretty awesome, but as a story, it's boring and predictable as hell (considering it's like a thousand years old, yeah).

It looks like they're taking some creative liberties with the movie to make it more exciting, but I'm actually not sure what I think about it. The visuals look really nice of course, and they've got a good cast, but it just doesn't catch my interest for some reason. I'll probably just wait until it's out on DVD and watch it out of curiosity.

Hmm I didn't notice it was cgi until I saw you say it, watched the preview before. Good job they did, especially with it seeming intentionally plasticy. :)

There hasn't been a good Beowulf movie to date. The best was Beowulf and Grendle (2005 I think) and even the total manliness of the amazing Gerard Butler couldn't stop it from being boring as hell.

At least this one has a wet Angelina Jolie. Not the hottest of actresses imo but she'll be good enough to distract most guys from a boring movie.

Yeah, thats true. I was kind of surprised AJ was in this movie, actually.

Yeah the first time I saw this trailer I was like "Why does everyone look so fake?" The second time seeing it I can definitely tell it's CG. It looks almost real but there's like a fake-ness element to it...it almost looks like everyone is made of plastic or wax or something.

I sure hope they dont pull an "Eragon" with the movie...

If by "pull an Eragon" you are implying that they turned a good book into a bad movie, I hate to be the one to break it you, but...

The Eragon book sucked just as much as the movie.

meh,
my favorite beowulf was still "eaters of the dead". when that went movie (the 13th warrior) they changed a lot, but took a book that really shouldn't be a movie and with liberties made it fun.

i'll see this when it's on tv probably, but even if they pulled "an eragon" what's the worse they can do? Or worse, update the dramatic themes and add character, take a classic and modernize it with today's standards for epic? oh noez, not againz.

Meh, $10 says it's actually better than the story. I don't care that the things a kajibablion years old and is still cool... it holds no weight to more modern crap. And I do mean "crap".

Nah, that is just your opinion ^_^

True, Eldest is a hundred times better in comparison, but still... it is a really good book. ^_^

And the movie really screwed off the book... mostly everything was altered in some way, and somethings that were required in the story were screwed over...

Anyways, yeah. :D

Well, yeah, I'll give you this: The book (who care's if it sucked or not), the movie altered everything apparently. Pissed off some sort of cult following, alienated the possibility of a sequel (?), and brought the series (2 books?), and writer into a mainstream aspect, where the books became more popular than ever before, and got quite a bit of extra attention - thus allowing these (shitty or good) stories to be shared with so much more over the world.
Oh, how horrible it is.

Meh, I hope like I've alluded, this Beowulf either hits the money or becomes a big mess. Might teach children to read, either way.
Oh noze...

Bastards... getting all the attention... wish someone would massacre the hell out of one of my stories and make me a house hold name for a day, maybe two days
. . .

EDIT:
Oh, and Solid Bro, right back atchya.

It's actually a newer way to make the movies. They film the actors, then place the animation over them. Same thing they did for Polar Express. Kind of a cool effect, I think and the movie looks better with every trailer. Plus, I found out they will be showing a new trailer for the Cloverfield movie in front of it, so I'm there.

Has anyone else seen this movie? I went in with my entire english class and watched it.

Horrible movie, shames the story, and has WAY too much nudies for PG-13...

But the artworks were very nice, and it is an excellent feat in the way of the future of film.

Has anyone else seen it? If so, what did you think?

Merged the new topic into the previous one.

And that's funny Kojo, I'm supposed to go see it with my English class sometime soon. None of us really care about whether it's good or not, we just want to get out of school for a while. =P And it's AP so the class is really small and we all know each other really well, so it should be fun even if the movie totally sucks. I'll save my real judgment until I see it, but the trailers and tv spots aren't helping that much. Bleh.
