Beginner Help [VX]

Hello, I just downloaded this game, the VX one and I've always been a good writer with tons of free time on my hands who also loves RPGs, and my friend suggested this game.  I read a lot about this game and I think I could really get into it, yet I've honestly no idea what I'm doing.  I searched through the tutorials and still am pretty clueless.  Is there any website or something that would tell me how I can get started?  If I can just be told how to start I'm sure I will be able to figure the rest out on my own.  Anyway, thanks.

The help file that accompanies it is where I'd start if this is your first RPG Maker experience. Then start playing around with it by creating events and maps. When in the database or on the map right click and select, "help" or "what's this?".

Thanks, yeah I just found how helpful the help part is.  If it isn't too much trouble could you define what "scripting" means?  Everyone talks about it and I think I have a good idea what it is, but I'm still a little clueless.

RMXP and RMVX both implement a scripting system based on the Ruby programming language. For RMXP its referred to as RGSS on the other hand RMVX uses RGSS2. "Scripting" is a loose term that means writing code for either RGSS or RGSS2. While you're here that is. After starting a project in RMXP/RMVX, hit F11 and there's your Script Editor. But if this indeed your first look at Ruby code close it and do some research on the code and syntax before messing around in there. There are plenty of tutorials and the like around this forum. Search for Ruby tuts. If that interests you I mean.

By the way we can always use more Scripters here.

Good luck with it flying_monkey_child! :thumb:

I've been fiddling with this program since rm2k (except XP), and most of what I've learned has been trial and error and a lot of patience.

Just fiddle around with stuff. Learn the boundaries and get creative.

I'm still pretty rubbish with the scripting, though.
But give me some time and a sprite sheet and I'll spin gold.
*cough ego cough*
