Basic newbie question regarding message timing...

Hi there!

I've checked around the general FAQ and the first few pages of this forum to see if someone's asked this question, and it looks like it hasn't been posed... recently.

I'm re-entering the RM community after a 7 years absence (my last RM was 2000) and I've grown quite rusty. I just have a very basic question:

I would like to disable user control during a message, and/or be able to time it's display length. I'm creating an opening introduction, and don't want the player to be able to zip through it.

Thank you again for your time. I've actually still remembered a great deal- especially with mapping- so I hope this is the first and last noob question I throw your way!

Ah, sounds like a job for Ccoa's UMS. The script allows message windows to close automatically after a set time. Search it on Google. I guarantee you'll find yourself using it in all of your games.

You can also make your messages pictures, then just use "display picture". This way you have all the control over the message box you want (message size, cool fonts, backgrounds, timing, etc..).

Just a word... If anyone starts a new game after seeing the intro, are you going to make them suffer through it again? (a "Skip Intro" option might be nice.)

Be Well

Thanks, both of you! MCsephiroth, the UMS script really did help - it's brilliant.

However, Brewmeister's idea of messaged pictures gave me a great idea for something else. I'll toss it around for a bit and if it works, I'll let you know.

Thanks again! Good to be back.
