Well William Henry Harrison gave a two hour Inauguration speech on a cold and rainy March day and then joined a parade without a coat or hat. This turned out to be a great idea since he caught pneumonia and died a few weeks later. But yeah they are usually quick and dirty affairs that are usually only the subject of CSPAN. But its the first colored president, and against the history of civil rights and slavery that's a big deal for this country. And even people who didn't vote for him, such as my self, can see that.

I didn't get to watch it. :sad: I saw little bits here and there though, and all I saw were the enormous crowds in Washington. I heard that they were making a collage or something on one network with all the pictures viewers sent in, pretty nifty idea.

Also, apparently it was the most heavily guarded a president has ever been or something like that, which is understandable of course. I wonder how cold it was in Washington? (apparently there's this thing, good weather on inaugaration day means a good presidency will ensure, like with Reagan, but bad weather means a bad presidency)

Sheesh I had the parade on television for a while and I nearly died of boredom. Well, Obama's coming into a real shitstorm, so honestly he could probably just do nothing and things would improve over the next 4 years. Let's see if he does more than that, though.

it certainly goes to show that we're not all racists anymore, but honestly I care a great deal more about obama as a person than I do about his skin colour. he's got a lot to go up against in his first term, and the fact that his father was kenyan is absolutely immaterial to how he'll handle thing. it's certainly nice that america has a black president, but remember that people elected him based on his potential, not his skin colour.

at least, I hope they did. voting for someone purely on the basis that they're of a race is definitely one of the worst reasons.

On a side note, I heard there were much booing going on when Dubya came out (or at least when he was announced). All the mainstream media had were footages with faint OoOoing but I realized it's much more different in the crowd's perspective.

You know, I really didn't think that I'd... engage this much with Obama - not having come down with Obamania beforehand... but... He's really restored my faith in the notion that America can be a force for good in the world.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who is wishing that this could like Dallas - Obama gets out of the shower and the last eight years have just been a bad dream.
