Avion from my game, ksvb style

I'm jsut starting to make these, anyways, I know the original character is already from a game, but the original battle sprites arn't my taste, besides, I have no way to get them...beleive me, if I could rip them, I would, save me a hell of alot of time.

anyways, since I can't, I'll be making these sprites all from scratch.

do you like how it's going? and any tips on how to make it look better?

also, this is my first time spriting with anything other than a normal rtp template, and so this is very new to me. Due to the size, this is also my first time using photoshop, since I make all of my sprites using paint normally.

Well, his jacket's a bit too long, and his sleeves and pants are too short. Also he's lacking shoes, but I'm guessing you knew that.

And it almost looks like you used a gradient for the pants, which is a definent no-no. In any case, they're too saturated.

from a noobs (thats me) point of view this is pretty good. but the experts will definitely edit the template because eye-candy wise, the template's moves is kinda lacking of movement.

your spriting good. especially the hair. and dont stop doing it man. practice makes perfect :)

Saturation means how pure a color is. Like if you desatureate you are adding in more grey. If you tone down the color more it won't hurt your eyes so much. You could also try picking out the colors directly on that battler or sprite with an eyedropper if your program has that. A gradiant is a tool a program uses that bascially takes one color and gradually blends it into the next. It's okay for regular art work but in sprites it looks terrible.

hm...yeh, your right, I'll try to turn down the color next.

As for the gradient, I've always used paint for my rtp sprites, and since this is the first time I'm making an sprite of this size, I decided to use photoshop, and found the burn on the other thing that makes it brighter, can't rem the name, pretty useful.

I'll definetly try to desaturate them next, but I like the results of the color bending tools of Photoshop. Just personal preferrence on that point though.

The dodge tool is what it's called. That's probably the problem then as to why it's looking like a gradiant. Basically if you use that tool you are ending up with more colors than you need because it sorta gradually lightens everything around it. Try to make a pallet for yourself and for each area do no more than say 5 shades. 3-5 is usually the amount used. Your shading will then become more sharper and clear.

yeh, I usually do that for rtp sprites, but this is the first time I've sprited so big, and so for the first time I'm using photoshop, I personnally find it pretty useful.

But yeh, it WOULD look better with a patlete...I might go back and fix it, but I've put to much time and really isn't good at shading to being with, so the gradient will work for a newb like me.

Anyways, thanks for the advice, I'll try to implement it onto the next slides.

Well if you know where to place the dodge tool then you know where to place the colors. Using the dodge tool is only going to impede you further. Yes spriting takes time and it's a pain. (Main reason why I never get any of mine done). But using that methood is only going to handicap you. If you are going to practice may as well do it right, no? Just saying... because trust me, in the long run you'll be much happier.

Actually, I tried it a little bit before, and I didn't really like the result that much.

Maybe I'm just not good at shading, but limiting each shade to a specific perimeter made it look really weird...the blending effects on an large sprite like Kaiser looks pretty good, so I think I'mma just be lazy and keep at it, lol.

Don't think I'll change the saturation either, since the sponge didn't make it look better, I like the highlights personally.

I've already fixed that, noticed it after I uploaded the gif.

I'll update again later today when I have the stuck pose finished.

Much better, Love it already. Keep it up. I want to see gifs of all the animations.

Shame I dont use this size template in my game lol

Thanks, I don't use half kaisers in the game itself, only for minkoff's battle system. RTP for the normal game.
Anyways, I decided to resize the sprite as well as the template. Since I'm using some white ties battlers, the ksvb is way to big for them. This might take a while, but I'll post up the resized template once I'm done.
