Athena's Workshop

Since I such good advice when I first posted, I'm going to try posting as I go. Please let me know how I can improve.

1. Characters based on ShowKaizer and Tana's Half-Kaizer template. (added July 28)

Here are a few character concepts I was playing around with. I'm noticing that anything not a full frontal view is proving challenging. I think the ninja is closest to the style that I would like to achieve.

First and foremost, I *LOVE* the fireman. He is SO ADORABLE! :love02:

Now that THAT's out of my system ...

The shapes and measurements of the clothes are spot-on. And the color schemes look very well thought-out.

The hair is really lacking, however. The outlines are too dark for the interiors, and I'm not really digging that whole Beatles-look, like someone took a bowl over their head and cut around it, then gave it a cowlick :'P. (Don't get me wrong, I ADORE the Beatles, but it was the sixties and they cant be held accountable for their awful harstyles ...) The blonde one is fine, but it needs more contrast.

Also, did you forget that shadows not only appear on clothes and hair, but on skin as well? ;) Their skin needs some minor shading under the hair lines, and under the clothes, as well. Don't pillow shade, just find your light source and imagine it out as you go.

This is by ShowKaizer. See how it's shaded under the hair and under the clothes on his skin?

Next, all sprites but the fireman, the red-apron guy, the Imperial Ruler, and the loincloth guy need a few more colors. A dark one and a light one, especially. You have a lot of midtones going on, meaning that there's little contrast. The ninja needs only a little, under the folds in his outfit or his arms or whatnot.

And I agree, doing to side-walk is the most difficult thing for me, as well ... Until Tana came out with her dancing poses ... Those are just cruel! :'P

I'd love to see more! Awesome job! :#

Okay, I'm trying to conform to the HKCP style, but it still doesn't seem right.  Any tips?
tip #1: Use .png file format when posting. you get a whole bunch of pixel static and lost quality which makes it hard to critique if you dont use .png

Don't forget the eyes! The template eyes make them look lifeless, so add color. I've noticed a lot of people haven't been doing the eyes but I never brought it up before since they're just making parts and and full sprites.

Wow They looks perfect 0-0
I would be moar happy if i was an HK character user////

sad that I didn't use HK charas...

Hahaha!!! How cute :3

(the purple one looks like a female Grimace)

The shading and shapes are pretty good, but your palettes have WAYY too much contrast. Knock those darkest colors down a few notches.

MUCH better with the palettes. Try lighting the outlines in the girl's hair, especially in the highlights so they don't seem so obtrusive. Other than that I'd say you're good to go on a full sprite sheet =)

BTW you may want to put a HKCP icon in front of this thread, I keep passing over it on accident ^_^;
