Nothing. I really don't have much of an opinion about it. If a game is good, it's good, and that's all there is to it.
But of course at the same time, it's a really easy and lazy way to use RMXP. If the player never has control of things, there are a lot of aspects of the "game" that you just don't have to worry about at all.
It's not sudden by any means. I explain in another post in this topic why I love pokémon so much.

In terms of pure badassery, he has nothing on some of the villains. Ertai, for example, has one of the most badass (and tragic) storylines. Greven il-Vec has the badass moment when he kills Vhati il-Dal, and then Crovax tops it all after what he does in the City of Traitors (assuming you're familiar with the storyline).
Strongest card: Island, hands-down.
Favorite card: Yawgmoth's Will.
Strongest character: Yawgmoth. My initial reaction is of course "Urza", or maybe followed by Karona, Karn, etc. But Yawgmoth goes beyond all the planeswalkers in that he's actually a god, and it takes multiple planeswalkers, and a shitload of others, to take him down during Apocalypse.

Also, what sounds like a better plot twist: Satan making a deal with a branch of the Catholic church for them to serve him to gain ultimate power, or the main character turning out to be one of the main villains, due to a "Jackal and Mr. Hide" type personality, but he doesn't realize it until towards the end?

Better yet the main character is the main villain and knows it the entire time. However, you the player doesn't know it.
