Instead of making a new resource thread every time one of my WIPs scratches its nose, I figured I'll keep all my inquiries to one thread. And so a workshop thread is born!

But, I kinda want advice one at a time, so I'll just keep upping one, getting critique, fixing it, and then moving on to the next project.

Onward ho! Working on my zombie :

zombehs

I think the bra is swell. However, those stockings (more like leggings, they're a little shiny for a piece of clothing I imagine to be more dull looking), and especially the skirt is giving me fits.

Ah, before you rip me a new one, the skirts are by no means finished products. I started with the one on the left, wasn't happy with the direction it was going, so I abandoned it and started working on the one on the right. But now I think I was in a better direction the first time!

The skirt is supposed to be a tight-fitting, low-slung short thing, so, I'm pretty sure I needn't concern myself with the perspective on this one. Unless I do!

And the stockings/leggings are, as I said, a bit shiny, but without that extra color, they look extraordinarily flat. :/ AND, if you're concerned, there would be shading underneath the skirt, but since I don't have either article of clothing to a satisfactory state, best to leave that alone. Also, it'd be the last thing I do, since I want to keep all the layers for later sprites and recolors and suchnot.

Like I said, I'm pretty happy with the bra. The character's underoos aren't supposed to have shoulder straps, but then I added them, but then they looked silly so off they went again. If there was a problem it would be in the tit shift during the side animations, but I think I did as best as I could aligning them up. God bless you, guide lines! Also, the back strap is kinda strong, but shading seems to be unnecessary there. That, and there'll be a whole mess of hair covering it up soon.

Some commissioned work of the character can be found here, though it's not the completely defining character mock-up.

Opinions, C&C, James Sunderland references, plox. More to come!

^ Kinda postponed for the moment, don't mind me.

[edit 6/03]

I'm sorry I jump around a bit. It's hard for me to work on big projects continuously to completion, I tend to get interested in something else (say, another sprite), and won't touch the first one for another couple of weeks. I'll probably edit this first post to reflect just the things I wanted posted, not a single or a couple questions/etc. Anyhow, in the spirit of Showkaiser's workshop, I've decided to post a lineup of my characters, but there's not too many to show for the moment. I stopped to work on some shading, I'll post hers below.

There's some outline issues, especially with the yellow dress, but I'll ... cross that bride when I get there? I took Beserker's advice on trying to get the first frame done, but I don't know if I want to outline all of them, then take them one at a time, or just outline one, get it done, and move on.

DERP DERP nevermind my rambling.

Looking good so far. You do need help with that skirt.
Ive had a go with it, its up to you if you want to use it.

And just a tip, try to finish the first frame(completely) before working on the other frames, saves time through fixing errors and that.

I look forward to trying to do the hair.

Ooo~, that does look better. Mind if I work off of that?

Oh, you mean, do all the clothes of the first frame first? That's my preferred way of doing it, since that's the easiest frame IMHO. But I thought maybe this way would save some time.

... though, it really makes more sense to do it all at once, for comparison of the pieces together if nothing else. I'll do that, then.

And oh lawdy, I'm not looking forward to the hair. That scarf looks like it will be a nightmare, too.

Sure go ahead, you can use it all you want.
Bah hairs easy, just practice.

If you really need need with the hair and scarf just send me a pm and ill see if I can start you off.
good luck.

Ah, usually hair is easy. More so than a lot of clothes, IMHO. And I can get the outline for this particular style all right, I think, but I am getting the shading of the ringlets all wrong, methinks.

I'll see if I saved my sandbox attempts, I might not have but I'm sure I could whip something up real quick if not.

Hope this isn't an icky unwarranted double-post, I've got progress, so ...

I feel like I'm being over-ambitious with the hair. ;3

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p130 ... ushair.png[/img]

And I'm not really happy with the hair color, but that's not really my concern right now, I can easily swap colors later. The basic shape and tonal qualities is what I'm largely concerned with at the moment.

I'm not even bothering with shading the hair until someone strokes my harbl in telling me that this isn't over the top. God help me on the sideviews ...!

I do the majority of my line clean-up during the shading process - I remove singular pixels as I'm processing, so to speak, that section of the sprite - so if it looks super messy, that's why. But, the general idea is there.

On a barely related note, I'm trying out Graphics Gale for the first time and after I  figured out I need an alpha channel to erase shit (grr), it looks like it's shaping up to be my pixeling program of choice.

[edit] Also, I notice that long bang piece is kinda over-shaded for where it's at. I'll fix it probably tomorrow night.

Well I must say the hair is very well done, design-wise. It would be better to see if it was cleaned up.
For starters I say you should simply the sides and your shading. It looks messy and will be like hell when you have to started doing the movement frames.

For colour, add a touch more blue in the darker shades and a tad more red in the lightest shades. That should help I believe.

Okay, update.

I've put off both the zombie characters for now, and am working on something I thought would be easier.

But it's not.

http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p130 ... mate-2.gif[/img]

The sprite sheet if anyone's hot and bothered about it. I like to animate my WIPs because I feel like I catch more errors that way.

Her hair is supposed to more dramatically swish to one side but I think I toned it down enough to pass in a game.

I think, re-reading Beserker's posts as well as lurking Tana and Showkaiser's posts, that I over-complicate the hair, making more parts than are necessary. So, when I get home tonight that's the first thing I'll try to redo.

I am worried, however, about the hair swish, ie, the movement from one frame to the next. I've probably spent more time fixing or readjusting that than anything else about this.

Also, I tried looking through the HKCP for how bangs should bounce during walking, but I don't think I've quite got it. Looking at Kaze's, only the bottom couple pixels of the bangs swish side to side, so I tried to emulate that, but I'm sure I'm doing it wrong. Also, this sprite's bangs are bigger, which probably also contributes to the disparity.
