Arc's RPG Maker MV Character Generator Extension v2

Last Update: OCT 29 2015

Update v2: Turns out I forgot to put the female eyes in the Part One package! My bad. Rexxon over at RPGMakerWeb also pointed out that I missnumbered what should have been Accessory 11 to Accessory 5. I have fixed both of these issues and updated the links to the new version!

So, let's be honest with ourselves here: RPG Maker MV's character generator is pretty much the greatest thing since chili cheese fries. But it's missing something...

Oh yeah, just about frikkin everything!

My biggest issue with it is that it's stingy with what parts you are allowed to use for a particular gender - and I say, "Hey, why can't my dashing hero have a lovely spring bonnet?!"

The worst thing is, everything in the character maker is designed to work together regardless of gender - so things like the noses and eyes and mouths and the frikkin' headset that it decides only female characters can have actually work perfectly on an otherwise male character.

So I fixed it. Look how fabulous you can be!

These are all randomly generated!

Okay, yes, those are silly examples (Actually, the last guy is amazing, but whatever), so here is the whole reason I did this:

I wanted to give the player a choice between a male and a female hero, but it's pretty much impossible to create a male and a female character who are twins, because for some reason they decided that the female noses and mouths and eyes are too female? Seriously, everything but the hair in this generator is mutually exclusive based on gender.

The solution?

Arc's Generator Upgrade!

Part One (The Male Tab Upgrader): https://www.dropbox.com/s/5qlc7plbg320mv5/Arc's Generator Upgrade 1 v2.zip?dl=0

Part Two (The Female Tab Upgrader [WARNING]): https://www.dropbox.com/s/wql2vlmpckvkk4b/Arc's Generator Upgrade 2 v2.zip?dl=0

What's the [WARNING] all about, you ask? Part one, which adds the female parts to the male generator, doesn't overwrite anything. It can't really do anything to hurt the generator. Part two, one the other hand, actually copies everything (with a couple exceptions, see below) back over to the female side, with the exact same structure as the Male side - this will overwrite most of the files, and will make the default Female look... a bit mannish. The point of this is that is makes both tabs pretty much the same, so you don't have all the limitations you had before, without me having to do this entire project twice in order to keep the Female tab's numbering intact. Note that this WILL BREAK YOUR FEMALE PRESETS. Sorry, nothing I can do about that at the moment. That's why it's a separate pack! Wee!

The only thing not touched by these packs is the clothes and body files. The difference between the female and male bodies in the Face generator is that the man has a wide neck, and the difference in the sideview battlers is mostly boobs. The reason I didn't include the clothes is because the female clothes simple don't fit the male body/neck. The inverse is also true. Maybe someday I will try to fix this, but the fact is that every Male clothing option has a pretty close female counterpart.

Update 10/28/2015 -
-Part One (Male) and Part Two (Female) are done!
-I also fixed a broken set of eyebrows.

No, don't think I'm going to stop here, though. No way! I also intend to rip as much as I can out of the DLC (with credit, of course), as there are a number of mouths, facial markings, and eyes specifically I can get from there. Also, I intend to add "no nose", "no ears" and "no eyes" options for those of you who wish to build nude, genetic freaks. I'm also going to work on variations of some of the female eyes that are less eye-lashy.

I want this to be as significant as possible, without straining my non-existent spriting abilities.

How to "Install":
PLEASE BACKUP YOUR GENERATOR FOLDER BEFORE MAKING ANY MODIFICATIONS TO IT - I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF THIS TOTALLY FUBARS YOUR PC

Part One: In the downloaded zip, find the folder called "Generator". You need to copy this folder on top of the Generator folder in your RPG Maker MV program directory - note that this upgrade affects RPG Maker MV itself, not a specific project! Any updates to RPG Maker MV may break or delete this pack (I will try to keep on top of that, so let me know!)

Your RPG Maker MV directory should be in a location not unlike this one (Windows 7):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RPG Maker MV

Arc's Generator Upgrade Part One should not overwrite anything, so only allow the folders to merge!

Restart MV, and voila! You should have all the goods!

Part Two: In the downloaded zip, find the folder called "Generator".

Arc's Generator Upgrade Part Two definitely will ask if you want to overwrite files, in addition to merging the folders. If you want to use it, your only hope is to click yes!

Restart MV, and voila! You should have all the goods!

Another important note: Because MV's generator parts have to be numbered sequentially without any breaks in the numerical sequence, Arc's Generator Upgrade is not compatible with any other Generator add-ons. If you try to copy it with another add-on in place, it will likely ask if you want to overwrite the files previously added. I can't fix this for you, sorry! You can either rename some of the files already there or some of the files in my back and go from there, or, if you help me get permission, I may be able to add any stuff that is causing issues to my pack for future use.

Nice.

Yeah, I'm not sure the point of a generator in RPG Maker having a gender option. Sprites look the same. Even faces like these can look the same.

At first, I naively assumed that most of the parts were gender neutral and available on both gender tabs... It turns out that the only things that are gender neutral is the hair - and even then, the Females get two back hairs that Males don't!

Seriously, almost 100% gender exclusive build here. And my examples were silly, but even on the faces - only 1-2 of the mouths look wrong on men, none of the noses, and honestly the eyes are barely noticeable.

So yeah, when I'm done with this, the tabs will actually be identical. The only difference will be the base body/neck files.

It will also make it easier to add parts because they won't need different names depending on gender.

Update: I am done. I have split the project into Part One (the harmless upgrade to the Male Tab) and Part Two (The much more drastic overhaul to the female tab).

Stay tuned for Part 3 - New and exciting parts!!!

Update: v2 is out and I have updated the links.

I discovered that I had accidentally left the female eyes out of the part one package. I fixed this.

I was also informed that I made a numbering error on one of the accessories, and it was trying to overwrite something. I fixed this as well.

Next on my agenda:

Find out if it's actually impossible to break the numerical sequence of the objects.

Add no-eyes/no-ears/no-nose/no-mouth/no-pupils options.

Redo the female generator parts to retain their original numbering, and let me combine the two parts into one.

Yeah it's weird they made "beast ears" separate. It would make sense if it was a layering issue with other parts but that doesn't seem to be the case. And the hair doesn't hid the regular ears either so with cat ears, characters would have 2 sets.

Some of the objects have an empty slot, but I'm assuming they aren't using an empty graphic. I wonder if that's hardcoded or something.

Edit:
The Female tab has an empty space, without beards. Adding beards into the variation folder did nothing though.
In fact I deleted all the female folders, just to see what would happen, and all the options stayed the same just without graphics.
