People invent a new way to find out when the world is going to end every few decades.

It's just our way of understanding something that no one knows - just trying to unlock one more secret that we probably won't unlock till it's happening to us.

So as previously stated, it was y2k not to long ago. In a few more decades, it'll be something else.

I think the whole idea is just silly, but it will be rather interesting, to see what people do, when Dec 21st 2012 comes rolling close

Never put much faith in "correct predictions." Like those of Nostradmus, the way Mayan "prophecies" read (after translation) can be interpreted to mean literally anything.
