i am having trouble with my troops,
i have set a background on the troops tab in tools,
but when i have an enemy encounter while running through the game the backgroung is just black?
does anyone know of anyreason why this is happening or anyway to fix it please?

Can't you set the battle background using Map Settings - Battleground event in the map? That might work, I think.

Are you sure you have set a battle background at the Tileset Tab in the database?

yea i did it using 50 default tilesets on the gimp, just wondered if there was a different way because i still only have a few autotiles, and they dont work verywell

You should only merge what you know you'll use. That way you don't have to worry about the autotiles as much, and there will be loads less lag.

But if you're really gung-ho about all 50, then you'll want to increase the size and add in tiles from various autotiles.
