Another hello from a noob

I only just heard about such a thing as rpg maker about 6 or so months ago (shows how much I keep up with the times) And tried the demo. Loved the concept, but I really really sucked at making anything cool, so I forgot about it without doing much at all. Once I found out the game "Aveyond" (which I absolutely loved) was made using rpgxp, I started thinking more and more about the possibilities, so I thought I'd go all in and spend the cash. At first I still couldn't do anything cool, and thought I'd have done better by using that $ for a good bottle of Scotch.

But the concept of what I could do was so compelling, that I persisted. After all, I had a novel in the making just sitting there doing nothing, cause as a (wannabe) writer I suck at certain aspects of the craft. Namely descriptive narration-- what does the town look like? What do the characters look like... I DON"T FRIGGIN KNOW, ALRIGHT! there. I said it. Happy now? Anyway, with rpgxp, I could substitute that pesky descriptive writing by making maps (my maps still pretty much suck, but I'm getting better) and use the pregenerated sprites, many of which suited my character ideas pretty well. This allowed me to focus more on what I believe my strengths are-- dialogue, plot and character development.

As I started experimenting with events, and getting my story-line going, I had all sorts of ideas, but didn't quite know how to implement many of them. So I googled for some tuts, waded through some muck, and eventually stumbled onto this site, which for me was a goldmine of information. While I still have much to learn, I got a pretty good grasp of some basic stuff by reading, reading and then doing some more reading. Did I mention that I read quite a lot?

So now here I am, a DnD Geek who likes to write, and is a sucker for 2d console style rpg's who thinks he's got a potentially kick ass game brewing ("The Shadows of Lin" is my working title right now) Hope to keep on learning, perhaps contribute a bit if I am able, and make a few e-friends with similar interests.

The best thing you can do with almost everything is practice. And from what I've gathered from your post you have quite a bit under your belt already so you'll fit in nicely. Hope you find everything you want or need while you're here. Don't hesitate to ask questions in the proper section and good luck with your game Velthayne. *Oh and if you see Luminier don't mention the fact that he smells. He'll throw a hissy fit.*
