Animation at the start of a battle

Is there a way to play an animation every time a battle starts?

Such as? You need to be a little bit more specific. If I can help at all I would have to say it would probably need to be scripted, OR you could make an event for EVERY troop set to make an animation on something, if that can be done.

I want to have an animated gif show in the middle of the screen at the start of every battle, if a gif isn't possible, then a still picture would still be better than nothing

You can use a show picture or animation command in the battle events, with the condition for the page set to 'Turn 0' and the frequency set to 'Battle' <.<
