Ancient Blade Demo

STORY
You play as Kee, a young boy living in a world infested with monsters summoned by dark magics. Only a select few people have to power to slay such beasts. One of those chosen warriors... Is Kee.
After learning he is one of the gifted one's, he learns that the King of his continent has given orders to kill all of those who have such power, for he fears their excessive power might have the potential to overthrough him. In fear, Kee is sent of to a boarding school where children of his kind are safe... Or are they?
While living at the school, four children are asked to come to Jykrane Castle to discuss something by thier teacher Mr. Follis, but when they get thier, they find Isabell and Koje kidnapped by an unknown enemy!
After rescuing the two, they leave the castle to find the school destroyed, and Mr. Follis has left a note telling them that evil is upon them, and that they must cast it away! Thinking that Mr. Follis is dead, their new task is to defeat the kidnapper and eledged killer of Mr. Follis.
On thier way back to Jykrane City, they come in contact with Mr. Barry, who asks them to travell to The Temple of the Ancients with him to find out some information on who or what may have caused the school to be destroyed, but when they get there, they find the Vampire who they thought had killed Mr. Follis!
After defeating once again, they learn that Mr. Follis is still alive and that they must save him from a secret base of dark baddies in the Scorching Sands, but the Vampire gets away again! And so, the heroes set out to find Mr. Follis, and find out what happened to the school.

MAIN CHARACTERS
1.Kee (M)
The hero of the story, Kee is a very skilled warrior, but can be lazy, slow, or just plain out of it. He knows when the job needs to get done though. Also, his charm wins he over many females. Uses Light Swords best.
2.Ikuto (M)
A mysterious fighter. Ikuto saves Kee and all of his kind from the dangers of thier enemies, and he sees fit that travelling with Kee would help him fufill his goals. Though a great leader, he can lose his temper some times in the face of enemies, causing him to be irrational. Uses Heavy Swords best.
3.Silvia (F)
This happy-go-lucky mage packs power, determination, and a whole lot of energy. She meets Kee due to merely random encounters. Uses Staves best.
4.Lilith (F)
The caring, smart, stereotypical female role of the group. She becomes friends with Kee and they go to many events and classes together. She is a spiritualist, casting green magics and summoning fierce creatures. Uses Staves best.

SIDE CHARACTERS
1.Isabell (F)
A very smart yet quiet female. Koje and her meet Kee when they move into his floor. She is more serious then Koje. She is also good friends with Lilith. She can combine AP orbs.
2.Koje (F)
This little ball of cuteness is also very fiesty. She has feelings for Kee and isn't afraid to show after he saves her. She can take apart AP orbs.
3.Mr. Barry (M)
A teacher at the acedemy who joins the party to travel to the Temple of the Ancients. He seeks information on who summoned such horrible creatures.

OTHER CHARACTERS
1.Mr. Follis (M)
A teacher and close friend to our heroes, he gets attacked and percieved to be dead, but in the Temple of the Ancients, the find out he is still alive and the party sets out to save him.
2.Arietta (F)
Daughter of the evil vampire who destroyed the town. She says she helps the heroes because her father has gone insane, but it may turn out to be more than that.

I can tell you just from looking at your screenshots that you're going to need to get different battlebacks. Pretty basic story line too, but eh... might have a lot of potential if you develop it right.
 
After reading the first sentence, I completely lost total interest in this thread. The game looks extremely boring at best. Based on your only map screenshot, your mapping looks bland and needs work. Also that battle background just simply looks silly. Your sprites look suspended in mid-air like there is no means of gravity. My best advice to you is that you need to think what you can do to make your game stand out from the rest and be different, not just another cliche that gets thrown into the "I'll never play that again" recycle bin. Look at other people's project for ideas, and by this I don't mean stealing their ideas or work, I mean use their projects to help you get on their level and aid you to think outside the box.
 
Well... I wanted to return to RPG roots... Not so much a horror RPG or the other new spins on RPG here on the forums...
Plus I have no scripting experience...
This is my first RPG...
And I'm 12
 
You don't need scripting experience, that's why other people who already have the experience provide scripts for everyone to use. It's ok to return to RPG roots, but here's what you need to do, grab a pen/pencil and a notepad, and brainstorm a unique story that you think is worthy, then apply and create it. It doesn't matter if it takes a couple hours or not, no one said it's going to be easy. Remember, masterpieces aren't created over night.
 
I did that... There's more to the story then I said... I just didn't want to give it away... I guess I'm just not that original though :haha:
 
Well I think your story sounds fine Palominotp.

Although there are some things I'd like to see. For one I would like to see some more map screenshots. And I would also like too see more info on the characters, for example, what do they bring to the team? what kind of weapon/s do they use, and magic ect.

Well I can't say much but I will comment some of it..
Well can't say much about the storyline, pretty basic but it can work out just fine if you do it right :D
BUT one thing you can do is to put more of the storyline in a spoiler for people who want to know more.
So people who don't mind some things get spoiled can read and people who don't want can just ignore it XD
That way you can get more people to help you improve your storyline :)
Just remember to put a SPOILER WARNING!

But well as the others have already said you need to work on your mapping and change the battle backgrounds.

Alright I updated the story... I hope it's not too cliche or anything :grin:
I'm about to add some more screenies :thumb:

EDIT: The Screenies are updated too! I have ten now... All from very early in the game.

EDIT2: And the weapons the characters use best...
 
Played your game... Ancient Blade..

Had a tough time with the fight in the tower.. that was challenging.. ^^
Me personaly I love vampire themes in games, (not violent ones).. But what charmed me was the fact their was a reason behind the attacks.
And maybe the vampire isn't really at fault. Like a mystery of something else pulling the strings, while setting things into place.

Plus you have a good vampire helping the group, which was a good twist into the story-line. ^o^
The work done on this demo was thought out well, and I didn't feel bored while playing.

the fights are tough, but can be rewarding. I admire your upgrade system..using the shards as pathways.
If done a certain way, they can become a powerful group of fighters. *nice touch*

It takes a lot of passion to put into your story, and to make it into light in a playable adventure.

I've noticed while playing demos, mapping is done differently every person with a artistic flare. (Makes the game enviroment unique from the rest)
You should add more personal tough to your maps. Because every section is done very simple layout.
Except for the girls room in the dorms, you've done a awesome job with that part. O.O

But as for secrets in the game, (one took me awhile to get through one puzzle) ^^;;...that was very thought up well.. *the trick of the buttons*..

Battle system:
You've mentioned that you wanted to go back into the rpg's of old.. With pictures as a back lay, but not really part of the logic of character placement, and gravity. ^^
I see it as a ~place themes~ during battle, connected to the area where the fight takes place.
