Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Haven't seen a topic made about this game, and I did search the forums for it. .-.

Anyways, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a survival horror game, in which you wake up in a dark castle, can't remember anything, you just know that your name is Daniel and you must kill Alexander. Although, the story starts out rather cliched horror, it really turns out to be very immersive, and fantasy like even. One of the biggest factors was that the character is vulnerable, meaning that enemies can't be killed, the only thing you can do is run. But you must also watch out for your sanity level. Considering this is a pointless explaination, honestly, just didn't want the topic to start out empty though.

Here's a trailer of the game.

I hope you the game, not the topic. :/ Anyways, ah man, that game looks interesting, too bad it was only released for the gamecube.

Awesome Bro

If you liked Amnesia you should check out the Penumbra games, they're made by the same devs and were made before Amnesia, they're actually pretty cool and have the same sort of atmosphere.

what? it came out for the PC like 6 months ago (released long after gamecube's demise???)

also there WAS a lengthy discussion on this game a while back, though i think it was in the What Games Are You Playing? topic.

Anyway, long story short, my opinion of it was: I thought it was a neat game, for an indie game.

Were it a full game released by a major game maker, i would be HUGELY underwhelmed.

the environments, monsters, and props are ALL. THE. SAME. they look the same, act the same, etc.
it loses creepiness when your surroundings etc NEVER CHANGE.
you also lose a sense of progression.

also it always has the same mission layout.
you go to a new area. there's a thing that needs a key or item to unlock it or make it work. but to get that thing, you have to find 5 things. But for several of those 5 things, you have to find 10 OTHER things, and solve a simple puzzle.

rinse, repeat, about 10 times, and then you get a boss battle that lasts approximately 1 minute. you have 3 endings and all of these endings depend upon what you did to end the "boss battle".
(which is not a battle, but a ... mini puzzle, i guess).

the first 30 minutes to the first hour are REALLY riveting. you're excited and nervous and it's pretty freaky.

but then the last 5 hours are frustrating and kind of boring, littered with a few little "oh! freaky" or "grody " reactions.

just my opinion! but yeah idk it really wasn't very scary overall.

Umm... Ven, he's talking about the game that Juan linked.
... OH
oops lol :3 nvm!
yeah Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem was a MONSTER of a game. That shit was IMMACULATE.

Yeah, the more you progress into the game, it becomes more fantasy oriented than horror, and eventually the vulnerability that you feel will fade away. Although, the ending weren't really that overwhelming. I still enjoyed it either way.
