American Travel Info

Sorry I haven't replied for a while, don't want to seem rude after Vennies lovely help!  Just been very busy with the planning and the fact this is really about to happen and being at travel agents.

Somehow we are back to US / Canada -> Mexico -> Argentina -> Brazil all for under £950 inc. taxes which to me seems fucking fantastic for the UK.  That leaves about £2000 / $4000 spending money. An unlimited pass for Greyhound is £271, but we may need to get 60 days.  Amtrak seems nicer but it's a bit more expensive, doesn't offer 60 days and doesn't go to Vegas and other places, even though I believe you get a substitute shuttle bus?

I've been looking and all cities have at least a few hostels all for about $20 a person, so we may have to pre-book or take a risk and if it's booked go in a motel.

As for the motels being per person, is that with motel 6 because they seem to offer it as a room on their site... http://www.motel6.com/ms/view-stay.do

That one is more of the expensive ones I've seen too, between 3 that could get to $20 in some areas.

Oh and now some charming and delightful questions from my traveling colleagues.

- Which girls have the reputation for being the most easy

- Do college / university people stay about the whole year generally (Basically trying to work out if univeristy cities / areas will be packed with similar aged people between July and September)

@ iceplosion

That money could stretch out amazingly if planned well, your itinerary seems a bit mad though unless it's due to the lack of details.  Once you're into the states you may as well a bit more because the infrastructure is pretty decent.  New York and LA are opposite coasts.

Damn...that is really cheap, my flights cost a little more since I have to get to Australia first.

Yeah unless you are going to be in OZ for  a while you may as well meet them Stateside, I can imagine that detour sky rocketing the cost.

BTW While you replied I was making an edit above!

Ah, well my trip is a little better planned than I make it sound, it's just than someone else planned it.
We'll actually be in Australia for a couple of weeks so it's kind of worth it.

Wow, that's INCREDIBLY cheap! Just for a quick 3 day/2 night stay in Las Vegas alone, it cost my husband and I $1200. (Of course, $700 was on the CHEAPEST plane tickets we could find, and $300 was on the room). I definitely didn't want to skimp on the room, but it was far from the most expensive.

On a 5-day roadtrip across the U.S., I spent abouuuttt $1000, using Motel 6's the whole way. That was including gas, lodging, food, etc. But of course, I didn't plan ahead much, nor use a travel agent. I'm not a fan of eating cheaply, though, and will gladly pay an extra sum to upgrade my room, tickets, etc.

I'm excited for you! Have fun!!!

Yeah I still kind of don't believe the price myself.

This crucial question was missed though which is the most important of all the questions or otherwise my whore friends won't come. (no pun intended)

Where are the fun women and where are the nuns?

- I'll rephrase it how I think you say it in America... where are the girls looking to "hook up" and where do you stand next to no chance?  I know you're a girl Ven, but you're a cool girl who knows these things.
Indeed I do.
Las Vegas is the whoriest town of the whores. In fact, prostitution is legal! But seriously, if you chase pretty much any skirt there, you will get up it. Maybe even married skirts. They have a saying in Vegas, "Whatever you do in Vegas, stays in Vegas."
I've been there several times, and every time I've seen sex in the halls, sex/almost sex (couldn't tell) in the alleys, dudes with two or more chicks run giggling drunkenly into hotel rooms, girls making out in pools/spas ... It's hard NOT to get lucky there. Also, if you offer money to nearly any girl at any bar to join you in your room ... Well, I won't give you such lascivious ideas, but you'll definitely go far, with your "foreign" accent.

In other cities, seedy nightclubs are usually a good spot. High-class nightclubs, not so much, unless you have lots of cash. Also around college campuses. Chicks sitting on the CORNERS of bars are generally more willing to put out than those sitting toward the CENTERS of bars (don't ask me why, it's just something I've noticed. Even my girlfriends will "move down!" when they want to start scoping the room for banging partners). Chicks in the middle generally want to be left alone.

Where there is liquor, you have a shot. Where there is a lot, you have a better shot. Where there is none, forget it. And if you see a group of 4 or more girls, stay the hell away, because unless you pick one off from the crowd, it's pointless to chase them.

Your accent (if you have one) will help TREMENDOUSLY. Chicks think dudes with accents are "so hot" (quoth all girls ever). I'll admit, they get me excited too. I have no idea why?

Oh and in Mexico, if you see a lonely blonde in heels ... She will put out. It's a written guarantee almost.

Sometimes. Depends on where, and what college. In Florida & California, that's when all the college tourists come in. In the north, there may be less in the summer. I don't know exactly. But schools in the south generally come back from summer vacation in Late July/Early August, and in the west, they go back in Late August/Early September. Usually, like I said. Not always.

Irish and getting "Luck" in Vegas.  It was made for you my friend.

See Venetia, this insight in great.  We scarcely even have sit-down @ the bars in England so that edge theory is good.  Vegas sounds awesome if no too dissimilar from the Greek Islands us British people hijack to do that every summer.

I do have an accent, I speak near enough the queens English being from the South East of England, so like a standard James Bond or something like that.  Like this http://accent.gmu.edu/browse_language.p ... eakerid=97 but I don't sound like nasal fag...

And again from some quick online research American girls get drunk much more easily cause they drink less than Europeans and from a later age, so that's good too.  I'm not buying a girl a drink though, screw that, I'm on a budget.

Thanks and If I see you in Tampa I'll wave.

I'll do you one better. If I see ya, I'll spot you a brew. :D

(And yes, the Queen's English is like ... probably Insta-Panty-Off. Probably more than any other accent, easily. French is probably second, followed by a tie between Italian and Spanish (Euro-Spanish, not Mexi-Spanish), followed by Irish, followed probably by that more boorish, slang-y form of British (I'm not really savvy about your accents, I'm afraid), followed probably by some type of Afrikaan. The other accents are much lower on the totem pole, but will still win you points, besides Redneck accents, which does the opposite >.o)

Haha... the slangy British you are referring to could be so many things...  Chav, cockney, scouse, Mancunian, Geordie, wigga, brummy, Yorkshire, West country... maybe even Welsh (good awful accent, but funny to laugh at).  For a tiny nation we have a load of distinguished accents.

chav: (whitetrash) Fack off mate, you fackin' muggy lil' caant.
wigga: (Wannabe black people) Diz iz proper innit blood, get me?
scouse / liverpool: eaummmm... y'know.... eaummm... eaummm. you's y'know

Actually maybe it's cause we have different accents to begin with but I find Welsh really easy to imitate, Northern Ireland is pretty simple too.  When I try Scottish I always end up doing Indian or Aussie 10 words in.

Awesome Bro

eaummmm... y'know.... eaummm... eaummm. you's y'know bro paid £900 for flights and a bus from east to west coast. This was like 4 years ago when the dollar was worth money. Might be a little cheaper now! :thumb:

Oh yeah, dollar being worth nothing helps, I forgot about that, my spending money is going to go further than I thought (Once I get to the US)

Trust me, to all Americans, there are only 2 types of English accents: proper and slangy. We will not be able to tell the differences between the slangy accents. Hell, half of us think anyone who looks semi-Asian is either from a.) China or b.) Japan (depending on where you are in the country: in California, it's Japan, in the north, it's China). And try asking an American what continent the Czech Republic is located on. You will laugh.

All Latinos and Hispanics are either Mexican (on the west coast), Cuban (on the east coast), or Puerto Rican/Mexican (in the north). All people with a danish-sounding accent are German. No one knows what a Greek accent sounds like (we assume it sounds proper-British--just look at ANY movie). All brown folk who are not hispanic/latino are either "Towel Heads", "Sand Monkies", "Terrorists", or "Middle Easterners" (even if they're from India o_O).

Our general sentimentality is: If it's not in North America, it's one classification is "some-kinda-foreign", and that's good enough. That idea is especially prevalent in the south (don't blame them, the school districts are HORRID).

Yo, we gonna have to travel through the Midwest at some point so what's the most happening place there?  It can be Kansas City, Omaha, Lincoln umm Topeka or anything near them on route to Denver from Chicago?  I'm mostly talking nightlife here...

On top of that, whats the best place to stop on route from San Diego to Miami?  From Phoenix and Tucson and also in Texas... Austin,  San Antonio, Dallas, Houston?  Anyone been from San Antonio to Monterrey Mexico?  How is it there?

Austin's a great town. Good music, great people, fun bars. If you're going through Texas, make sure to stop there. Dallas and Houston I'd only reccomend if you know someone there: it can be tough to find anything exciting. San Antonio, no offence to those from there, is a sinkhole. Think of it like...Mannheim. There's a river, and some nice houses to look at.

So far as the midwest goes...there's just about nothin. I went to college in Ohio, and believe me: there's nothing. Every now and then a concert. For the most part, the towns are so small they don't have much nightlife, just a bar or two for the young kids. Madison, Wisconsin can get a bit crazy, but it's out of the way if you're driving to Chicago. Chicago, however, is awesome on all fronts.

A warning: do not party in Detroit. You will be dead. Or robbed. Likely both.

Cheers man, I kinda figured Austin was the best from my research but I got a bid worried reading that loads of young people leave there in August because it's too hot.

As for the midwest ones we're gonna have to stop if we don't want to be on a  bus for like 18 hours straight.  It'll likely either be Omaha or Kansas City, I just read that greyhound don't go to lincoln NE anymore anyway.

Oh yeah and I'm seriously trying to avoid detroit, we have to pass there from Toronto but I suggested to my mates that we go to toledo and visit that cedar point themepark.

Now THAT is a good call. Best rollercoasters in the world. Raptor is a lot more fun than it's size implies. Millennium Force WILL scare the crap out of you. 'Top Thrill'...if you like fast cars, this is pretty good. 0-120-5-120. Dunno about a two hour wait for a sixteen second ride, though. It's a cool park and you'll have a great time.
