Welcome to HBGames, a leading amateur game development forum and Discord server. All are welcome, and amongst our ranks you will find experts in their field from all aspects of video game design and development.
Haven't done much with the game but I'm working on stuff in the game on and off from time to time so it's not dead.
I was trying to find an idea on how will I create light sources outside the hospital as it would have been weird having lanterns/candles lit in every place when it should be empty. So after trying to ask on another site with not much of any help I thought about the game amnesia and came up with matches to light up lanterns/candles and other stuff in the future.
What do you think about having to use a match to get some light?
If it's good I also will be doing it like at first you find a matchbox which has 4 matches in it then you get the option to light or not light certain light sources like candles and it's up to you if you want to use a match or not.
(Searching/scavenging again will prove to be useful for some hidden stuff if you start running short of matches and/or whatever you might need )
It would be a good idea for certain sections of the game but I wouldn't want it as a predominate feature. Main reason is that it would probably become frustrating not knowing what is going on around you. But it would be a good idea to include darkness in some areas to heighten the tension? Maybe make it so that certain mobs cannot go into light, but it is light enough to still see?
Well the ai is not that advanced as it's mostly zombies and in the future I'm adding bandits/scavengers.
There will still be some sources of light in the houses like windows but it would be dumb having light sources in every abandoned house.
My game is set always during the night (Plus it's black and white so shadows are darker) that's why I have to come up with stuff like this all the time hehe.
[Edit]
To not double post I'll edit this.
I'm making more buildings at the moment before continuing the story and here I'm going to say something important to anyone who is interested to try my game in the future.
Just like the first demo there WILL be hidden stuff for people to find.
In the first demo the hidden stuff are:
Some bandages sticks, bandage rolls and some coins which you can spend on a vending machine to buy a drink.
In chapter 2 I have 2/3 maps of outside "ready" (Need events and stuff) and last help will be given just outside the hospital on where hidden items are unless it's story wise or key items. I will say tough, on some maps I am currently mapping there might be hidden stuff for people to search AND (This is important) some buildings which have nothing to do with the story can be locked.
You could find the key or someway to enter if you search around
