Alex Sprite

Well I started on making the civilians (which is like 90% of the sprites) for apocalypse, then I realized: holy shit, I can't sprite RTP (or at all :O). So I used my own self as a model, and started spriting as best as I could. Please take the time to tell me what I am doing wrong, not just saying zomg you suckz, go teh fux0rz awai. I need help with shading pretty badly, and btw hes supposed to be wearing a rammstein hoodie, greenish cargo pants, black tennis shoes, and have long brownish blondish hair. Thanks for your help!

First, I would desaturate the hair quiye a bit. That would give it a more natural sandy blonde feel without the my eyes are burning feel. Then, I would darken the outline of the hair. Lastly for the hair, and maybe this is just the saturation, because it tends to add to this, but I would make the contrast a little bigger.

For the pants, do they go all the way to his feet? If so, I would make them a little longer, so none of his skin is showing, I would also round off the bottoms a bit more. Thay look kind of... flat. A way to fix that would be to pull back the sides fo the pants, you know, lift them up a little more and pull them closer to the legs a bit. The pockets look like they are too far forward. They look like back pockets almost.

I suck at shoes and have never attempted a hoodie, but that's my advice for you.

Good job so far, though. Much better than I was when I was just starting up.

P.S.: Any other advice from anyone before I start spriting the rest?

Main thing i can point out is that your outlines are affecting the look of your sprite...remember that outlines are darker in colour and they change in contrast to the colours next to them.

I would desaturate the hair even more. And the pants look kind of flat still. I can't put my finger on it... Maybe if you either lighten the entire middle of each leg going all the way down, or darken the edges. I knwo that doesn't sound right, but I can't figure out how to explain it better.
 
No, no. I understand completely what your saying. I'm working hard to get this beta demo for my game right now, but I'll try and work on this sprite asap.
