Adding Videos to Game

I'm making a game and I just made a video for it.
I remember doing it before but I haven't used XP for a while so can someone please tell me how to add videos into your XP game?

You know, I've never been able to figure out why people can't use this script. I mean, I use it just fine. I found that .divx codecs do not work, and it is best to use an avi encoded in one of the default codecs installed on windows computers. (I use the intel codecs, because they have a good ratio of quality vs compression and work on every computer I've tested them on) Really, there should be no problems if you follow all of the instructions. For example, if you change the .avi file to a .wmv file, and edit the script so that works, then the video will play on only part of the screen. (And this part changes every time you try the game, and it always starts at the top and cuts off partway down) That is why it was recommended that people use .avi files. Also, @omarion2322, what is the problem you are having? Is the audio playing, but not the video? Or, is it just skipping to the title screen?

well i did try a different technique- making the video a BGM, but when I do that, the video pops out on a completely different screen
okay so when i started, there was an error, fixed it... another error, fixed it. i just couldn't get it to work

I'm not an expert on this but I pretty sure it's about the codec. Believe or not, but I've seen over 10 different kinds of AVI at the very least. If you have windows movie maker (which you should, it's default), try dragging your video in it and publish it. WMM should re-encode it to it's format (which should be a basic one). Again, I have no idea if it works but who knows.

I use WMM, but that puts out a wmv. (See above post for problems with that) I then use a converter to convert it to an avi using one of the default intel codecs. (Believe it or not, I have at least 30 seperate avi codecs on my various computers...)

I've wanted to know how to do this too, and now that I do, I need to know what codec to use.  I have Adobe After Effects, but that can export into hundreds of different codecs.  I also have the Vista version of WMM, but when I import an .AVI into it, it crashes.  I have the following .AVI codecs installed on my computer:
-Cinepack
-DV-PAL
-DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
-DVCPRO-PAL
-NONE
-divX 3 low-motion (I know this will not work)
-XviD 1.1.3 Final
-H.264/MPEG-4 AVC
-MPEG44 ffmpeg/ffdshow
-MP42-S-Mpeg 4 version 2
-WMV version 1 (WMP7)
-WMV version 2 (WMP8)
-WMV version 3 (WMP9)
-WMV version 5 (WMP11)
-Motion JPG

I know this is a necropost, but I didn't want to start a new topic since there are so many.

I'm not certain on which one you should use, but I've put a strikethrough on the ones you shouldn't. Most of them are simply just because a lot of people don't have them. On the WMVs, I'd recommend avoiding them. Also, you should have more than this installed, at least if you have a windows computer you should.

I have alot more than this, these are only the ones for .AVI files (Don't know why WMV is in here, since when I export it, it's a WMV file, but the extension is changed to .AVI).  I have hundreds more for other files, but I didn't list them since I didn't want to go through all of them.  I'll try Cinepack, hopefully it'll work!

Although it will technically work, it isn't the best regarding compression/quality. I'd recommend digging thru your stuff to look for some codecs by intel, which, if I remember correctly, come default with pretty much all windows computers.

I believe you can simply import .AVI files as a sound, and have them play in the event.  (BGM makes 'em slightly distorted.)

Anyway, it was something dervvulfman said like a year and a half ago.  Try it out.

edit:  it works, but not in fullscreen and it's buggy. =\

You can, but it won't play in the same window as your main, and then you can't continue the project.

I tried djzalzer's method and the video played in a separate process where you couldn't close it without using task manager, and the game froze up so that you could not play.  I used an Intel one they I found with this script and it worked fine.  Thanks for the help!

Just make sure that you check to see if it works on a computer you don't normally use. (And that, therefore, might not have any special codecs on it) If the video plays as audio only, you'll know you dont' have that video codec on the computer.

Okay, I'll test it on the library's computers.  They're running XP Pro SP1 on a PC designed for Windows 3.1, so if it doesn't work, I'll search for a more popular codec, or just put the Intel codec in the system requirements, and provide a link to it.
