Ad Campaign

Recently, some of you may remember, that I mentioned designing advertisements for peppers.

Well, I'm here to share with you what I have done.

Pepper Creek Farms sells various pepper products, and my goal is to create 3 magazine ads as a series.

Why are we advertising?
To get the products out the public and help get them known.

Who are we talking to?
The general public. People who don’t use peppers very often (or at all) in their dishes.

What do they currently think?
All peppers are hot, and aren’t good for much.

What would we like them to think?
There are a variety of peppers, from sweet to hot, and they add spice to otherwise bland dishes. They come in a beautiful array of colors and shapes, and add flavor and crunch to many low-calorie dishes.

What is the single most persuasive idea we can convey?
Peppers are good for a lot of things, and they are good for you. They are high in antioxidants, have a high vitamin A, C, and K content, and provide you with many health benefits, including the prevention of certain types of cancer.

Why should they believe it?
Research studies have shown that peppers have beneficial properties and are high in nutrients. They are a high in antioxidants, provide healthy heart benefits, and may lower the risk of diabetes.

This ad was the easiest of the three. You're actually seeing two separate peppers here. One is of the inside of a pepper, and the other is of the outside of a pepper. I slightly warped the outside pepper to sort of give it more of a heart shape.

This one was fairly simple to do, but it was time consuming. I used many many many layers to achieve correct shading and highlights. The most difficult part about this one was blending, texturing, and highlights.

This one was difficult because the lid of the pepper, the inside, and the outer shell were all from a completely different peppers. And to make things worse, they were different colors. It was pretty difficult to get the green color of the pepper red, while maintaining the white color of the inside.

I am still working on better type placement for all of the ads. Also, there are a few things that I don't really like about my ads, and one of them is the products they support. I'm thinking of removing the products and just have Pepper Creek Farms be my product. My other problem is consistency.

Just my attempt to copy something that already exists. I never finished shading it or retexturing it.

Just seeing what it would look like.

These are just some concepts.

Feedback is appreciated.

Actually, I like these quite a bit.
They still kind of look like they're halfway through the concept stage; the photoshop effects still look too smooth/artificial and not really like "a natural part of the picture" yet. And the fist looks real fake--I realize how hard it probably is to make the thing look more realistic but as it stands it's just way too fake-looking. It'd help if there was some more girth in the bell pepper to it in the back.

Secondly, I don't like the font for the small text you're using. I can see where you're going with serifs but I think you're going to want to find a font that has slightly less obvious serifs if you're putting it that small. It's a little on the hard side to read. And ESPECIALLY the text at the bottom, that shit is totally illegible.

Thirdly, I really like what you did with the logo and the product placement at the bottom right. I think it's so strong, it could be increased in size about 150% or so. Especially since this is the brand you want people to buy--when it's that small, it feels like an afterthought. The logo isn't terribly simple or easy to read, so an increase in size would definitely not hurt it.

Lastly I think the curves could be played with a little to make the thing "pop" more. And a little more ambient lighting wouldn't hurt, either. Without going overboard, of course, because I do like the simplicity thing it has going on.

Thanks for the feedback, Venetia. I forgot to mention that these are only at 30% of original size. The original print size it 8.5x11 (at 300 DPI). That's why it may be hard to read a lot of the text.

I'm going to try to remove the actual products as a whole and just make it about Pepper Creek farms. To me, I think that it would make more sense. So I'll finish that and get it posted up to see what you guys like.

this.

also, this is going to be a bitch, since you're already this far, but it would probably look better if you find another way to visualize the clouds, and the blast cloud stuff. The black is now really un-appealing because it looks like.. yeah well.. pepper, or coal flying around. I can't really think of what you could do else, except of using a combination of very small black lines, smooth, and high-contrast white.
(or just a high-contrast black, like actual smoke http://talklikeaphysicist.com/wp-conten ... /smoke.jpg)
(this is not actual smoke, but it resembles the shapes, and looks cool :thumb: )

Also, to make it less dull, you could spice up the pieces with typography that is a part of the image, instead of it being a small sentence that isn't readable at all from a distance.

anyway, good stuff already!
