Hey all,
recently I got a prettyy crappy mixer as of mistake, threw out a good 150 bucks. But it allowed me to do what I never really could before - Actually record, and produce my music. I didn't really have anything written ahead of time, a few snippets of guitar or piano, but nothing I could use for a song. So I started from scratch and wrote two songs as I went.
There is alot of white noise in the background, which really sucks, but it's something I'll work out when I eventually pick up a USB pre-amp or something. I plan on building a new PC as well, though too.
In these songs I used only my guitar, violin, and voice. I used a bit of a reverb effect at times too. My violin playing is a bit out of key at times too, but thats because it's out of tune and my pegs are stuck, and I'm afraid to try to tune them and snap a string.
The first song is a bit off beat at the beginning, but gets better, stick it through to the end. I recorded the guitar through a built in piezzo preamp through to the mixer, and the violin through the microphone.
The second song is a bit less extravagent, and I'm not sure it's finished, but I can't think of another part to add. I'm a bit more proud of this one, but not the violins (which are off key a bit). The guitar in this song was recorded through the microphone.

Man, I've always wanted to be able to play the violin, I'll learn that at some point in time though.
I like folk, can't listen to it for too long, but I like it when it's there. There's this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4ry7d8Xn9Y) that I've listened to a bunch of times lately.

Also your arrangement is very decent. Dream/All alone could use some minimal singing at the end of the track, much like after the crescendo in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlbTZTmLxe4, but that's about the only complaint (apart from the shitty quality too), as far as actual composition goes. I like how you did all that by yourself, pretty impressive.

Ambivalence is cool too, esp. the violin chord at 0:53. Nice contrast with the bare stringwork before, even though that's also pretty clean.

Dream continuity is really cool too. Are you really doing this alone? Props for matching up vocals so good with yourself.

Yeah man, this is all solo work I've done in the past week or so, just wrote it as I went.
I'll take your idea about dream/all alone into consideration. At some point I'm going to re record this all again
