A question re equiping items

In my game i want to the character to equip items. Which is easy enough to do. But what i want is the character to gain an ability from equiping the item
For instance - In my game, if the main character equips a poison ring, not only does it protect him from poison but it gives him the ability to poison other enemies as well.
I thought XP allowed you to do this, but i cant seem to do it. Someone please help!!!

All i want is when you equip a weapon or armour you get an ability. IE: If you equip a flame sword you get the ability 'Flaming Dragon' but if you equip a ice sword you lose the 'Flaming Dragon' ability and gain a new one.
I tried out the tutorial but a couldn't figure out how it works, i tried looking in all the events and tried to copy them as best as i could in my game, but nothing happened. Ive tried contacting Axules but he hasnt replyed to my PM's :(
Hope this helps.

ease up on the exclamation marks XD lol... just go to the Database, then go into weapons... and make some, simple ;) okay, so you dont get skills from them, but you can up their power in specific areas... and can give them different animations, like fire if you have a flaming sword, and so on :) give it a try

I might end up doing that.
Im making a digimon game, so if you equip a armour egg you can digivolve into a different creature. But if you unequip it you lose that ability. It just gives the game a different dimension to battling. Do have any idea on how to do this.
