A newb's first tree.

I am a perfect example of a newbie to RMXP's graphics. I have never tried to even so much as to rip a chip. I usually just cruise from site to site looking at different resources, taking some, leaving others. But, I deicded that was no longer for me, and I began to try to work on some other things. Here is my first satisfactory tree that I have made, sorry about the background color, I'm going to change it to an alpha trans soon enough. Tell me what I should do to it to make it work a little bit better.

A newbs first tree :-/

Oh, if you were wonder what I used, I used Corel Painter Essentials 2, and my trusty Microsoft Optical mouse. No Scans, no reference photos, nothing.

Very good, indeed! Just make some roots, and voila!
i just see one problem... it doesn't work with rtp...If you are gonna do a whole tileset in that style great, but if not you are gonna realy to change it.
But anyway GREAT TREE, expecialy for a begginer!

Thanks.

I plan on making entire chipsets for a game like this. (Perhaps Isometric)
I don't like working with RTP, and cannot emulate that style anyways. I'm working on a bush to go along with the tree right now.

I kept going and have completed a couple more objects, please critique.

I'm not so sure about the best tree you've ever seen. This was drawn by a guy who lives in the desert. :D

Below there is a dead tree, a shrub or a small tree, and a tuft of grass. Feed back please!

I like it. It's a style that looks like it's out of a 3D game. Because of that, they seem rather useless on their own, but if you make a lot more, it could be useful.

Congratulations, especially if it's your first. I'm sure our styles are very different, but it still took me a long time to get where I am today. You're doing a great job so far. Keep at it!

These items are being made for a isometric chip set, if the objects are too large, movement becomes difficult and somesimes frusterating. (The controls are unorthadox.) The same can be said if the objects are too small.

Most of these are second drafts, larger than the first, I do have a habit of drawing things a bit small. ;_;

I tried to find a happy medium.

Thanks! I'll keep working, and expect to see my chipsets in my upcoming game, Man of Smoke. I've made a few more things, like a cactus, a rock, some more tufts of dry drass, and a rusty water tank. They all will come to gether to make a pretty decent chipset. Again, thanks for the comments!

Yeah, I've been working hard, and updated the game I'm making these for can be seen here. The picture under screanshots will show you a bit more of the chipset. I've already added to the chipset with a few more cacti, as well as some cliffs, and a few more rocks, as well as some grass. So, Bizzydee, I hope there is enough to see. =D

Great Keep going. It's one of the best trees I have seen to tell the truth.

Same for me.
To be honest, if you wouldn't have said that it was your first tree, I would have thought that you are a professional graphicer ^_^

For game sprites it is generally advised to not "blur" the back ground and the edges of the sprite using AA as this will not lead to a crisp effect on top of your lower tiles. It's a very nice piece of work though :) .

That could be because he saved it as a .gif- in future, save things as .pngs.

Both .gif and .png formats are standard files for pixel art. The file type most commonly associated with the effect you describe is .jpeg.
I'd say it's more likely to be a conscious decision.
