A new laptop

I hope you love you laptop, wyatt. I got the studio 17 last winter and I love it. Mine was priced at about $1800-2000USD (i maxed nearly everything out except for the screen and the hdd), but I was able to get it discounted for $1500 (~£900 with current exchange rates). Be warned, it may arrive later than they told you. Mine arrived about 2-3 weeks after the guy said it would, but 1-2 weeks earlier than the dell customer service online tracking. My only problem is that for some reason, it doesn't always go to sleep properly, and when you try to open it up again, the screen stays black and the laptop is hot. It's nothing a reboot can't fix though.

It depends on what your needs are. The Celeron has always been really low performing, though.
I bought a mac pro recently for travelling and couldn;t be more happier with it. And now even the 15" ones have like 7 hours battery life.
Advantages also - very good design inside -mac interface & software, highly virus proof and out -aluminium finish, sensor glow keyboard, very low noise and heat.
Downside is the cost and the incompatibility with many programs. Im able to run rmxp with it on Crossover though with few problems. Macs are made for designers and musicians so it really suits my needs.

Install a decent operating system and you won't feel that way.

I hope you realize that that is a highly tarnished personal opinion, and nothing more. In fact, according to recent surveys, Dell products (and their computers were one of the categories), placed above around 75% of the market in customer satisfaction. Taking into account that, aside from apple, most of the major companies placed lower than Dell (HP placed dead last in every category), I think that your post can safely be ignored. Especially considering the fact that I bought a Dell laptop around the same time your "friend" did, and I'm perfectly happy with it. (And I do know what I'm talking about. I make it a point to research this stuff)

lol, hp sucks. HP is overpriced, and they have flimsy parts. Dells are good price and sturdy construction.

The only thing I'd say is the USB ports are a tad too small (I broke a USB stick pulling it out), and the screen feels a bit flimsy. Other than that it's sturdy and works well.

A teeny overpriced, not as great quality as Novatech for money.
Expensive add-ons (keyboard, monitor) that you can find much cheaper bought separately.

Customer service is shit.
Takes a long time to arrive, fiddly ordering service.
Breaks VERY easily.
Desktops fill with dust easily; poor ventilation.
Laptops overheat often.

My HPs:
Eventually break. No reason, just don't turn on.
Cheaply made, flimsy, crap.

My Toshiba:
Fuck me overpriced, no more on that.

My Apple Macbook:
Fuck me overpriced.
Very resilient -- HARD to break, upon testing.
Very well made, all parts designed to work with each other.
Fast operating system, supports Mac OSX and Windows.
Overall pretty decent, but the price is fucking ridiculous.

The battery problem is because you don't know how to use a high-capacity bettery like laptops usually use. Specifically, you drain the charge as much as you can before recharging, or you keep it plugged in as much as possible, or a combination of the two. If you don't drain the charge, it shortens the life considerably.

As to the other problems listed, you should have used their business portal. Then you'd get American customer service, and priority in the shipping and assembly lines.

That's what you're supposed to do. Charging it when its half full is the kind of thing that damages the battery.

Really? I never knew that. Normally I keep mine plugged in whenever possible, but I always plug it in when at home, regardless of the batteries charge.

As I said, it depends on the batteries. Most companies use a specific type (don't remember if it was nickel-cadmium or something else) that is damaged if charged when still carrying a partial charge. On the other hand, Apple uses a different type that doesn't carry as much of a charge, but is more damage resistant. (And they get away with it because their laptops take a lot less power than Windows ones do)

I just leave my laptop plugged in, non of my laptops have ever had a problem with having them plugged in while half or fully charged.

It really depends on how much of a charge it has when you start recharging it. The most damage is done around halfway charged, while the extremes, either empty or full, don't do much.

Also, I'm pretty sure that most of the laptops made by HP, Dell, etc. do use Lithium-Ion batteries. Those are the ones that keep getting recalled because of overheating, too.
