A MP3 to MIDI converter?

Does such a thing exist? Or is it a unicorn?

I have a lot of MP3's in my project and I would like to shrink my Audio folder to under 150MB [actually that's what it is now, I want cut in half or more].

Does anyone have MP3 to MIDI converter taht I can borrow.... or better yet, know where I can get one for free?

You can't convert MP3 to MIDI. MIDI sounds are generated by your computer sound card, using a soundfont.

Then can someone tell me a good way to compress the audio files I have now into a more manageable file size?

Hmm..simple file size compressor? Mp3 compressor? Isn't there a built in one for Windows (I guess all versions 98 up?) I'm not  sure...but I think there's a lot of programs to do that for ya!

Though I would wonder..why you'd want to turn a MP3 into Midi o.Oa

I just heard the MIDI has the lowest file size.  My Audio folder is OVER HALF my game's total size at a whopping 150MB.  I need that go down a lot!

You can convert them to .ogg with Audacity.  They're usually like 10% smaller.  Plus, they stream and you can define a loop point for them in VX.

Midi is sort of like an actual "program" storing a sheet music, that gets played. Mp3 is actual raw sound data stored, so as said before it's not possible. I'd recommend .OGG as mentioned (they can be a lot more than 10% smaller with decent quality, mine usually saves about 30-40%).

Something that you might want to keep in mind, though, is that OGG loads the entire song at once when it is played. So every time a BGM starts, there might be a slight freeze as the song gets loaded (depending on comp speed and file size). Mp3 is streamed, so it doesn't have that problem.

I ended up killing 110MB by just changing the bitrate from 128 to 64.  The sound is a little crackily, but you hardly notice unless you are looking for it.
