A guard/spotlight kind of detection deal?

Hey guys,

I need a few ideas here. I have a spot in my project, where you play a girl sneaking through a room full of guards. I don't want it impossible, since it's just kind of a little minigame. But I need some ideas. What's the best way to go about this? I can event anything, I just need some ideas on what the best way around this is. The game is set in Rome, during the time of the gladiators, so flashlights are out of the question. However; I wouldn't mind adding a kind of sight area looking light in front of the guard.

What's the best and most enjoyable way to do this? Anyone have any ideas?

Alright...... I know HOW to do all of it with events. I just wanted to know what people thought is the best way to do it. I don't need scripts. I tend to stay away from them for projects like this because I already have an ABS, and usually if I start combining scripts then I end up with compatability problems and then I have to start getting rid of things I began relying on.

So no scripts. But suggestions. Suggestions on the "funnest" way to create a guard system like this.

I tend to prefer the Legend of Zelda way - If they're facing you, and there's nothing in the way, and you can see them, then they can see you and will do whatever (capture you, attack you, whatever). :D Have you played LoZ: Ocarina of Time? That's specifically what I'm referring to, though A Link to the Past has a slightly more RMXP friendly format.

Yeah, I have played it. That was my plan initially. The only problem is that the map that this is taking place at isn't exactly filled with hedges or other objects to duck behind when the guard flips around. It's pretty much just an empty room with a few tables, chairs, and barrels. Maybe I'll just switch my maps so she sneaks through another way. Or maybe I'll take the sneaking out altogether and maker her have to find another route into the building.

Unless I get another idea, that's what I'm going to do. Thanks, Tindy. There will be a place like this later in the game as well, where I'll be using the LoZ system. ; )
