A Glass of Chaos Demo

A tip if you don't know already: The black arrow above the space in the show text command shows where the text will cut off. You can also press F2 to preview the message, but you won't be able to see the face and you will see the code text.
Another note is that your windowskin is not properly imported. You might want to fix this.

Thanksfor the heads up, but how do I do this? I just saved the file to my windowskin follder in the graphics folder under the project.

You can tell I'm a newbie with most of this...

From the FAQ:

Select Tools > Material Base.  On the left hand column highlight "Graphics: Characters", and then select the Import button.  Find the files you wish to import, and highlight them, select okay.

You will be presented with a screen of your resource, you will have two boxes below it to show you your  transparent color and Semi-Transparent color.  Left click on background color, to set it.  This color will now be transparent.  Right clicking on a color will set it to a semi-transparent, which is mostly used for shadows and the like.  If your graphic is poorly done, or has antialiasing, you will have to clean it up using an art program so these two sections (background, or anything semi-transparent), are a unified color.
Only instead of characters, go to Windowskin.

King Red, here's my new kitchen map. Does it still have too much open space? I noticed in the screenshot that one of the foods is hanging off the table, so I will rpobably have to play witht he locations off the items on the tables... but let me know if this is more appropriate for an indoor map (Almost everything I've added is interacvie too), or if it could still use more work.

Secondly, here's one of my faces. I had to edit it a tad in photoshop (I'm planning to take the red blotch on his collar out). One of the collars was incomplete, so when I tried to set the background to transparent, par tof the face was set to transparent. So, I closed the closed wiht the pencil tool. I'm just curious if it looks passable, or if the edit is blatantly obvious. On a final note, does the square cut off of the face look a little weird?

Lastly, as a style choice, I'm wondering if I should still include the name in the text box, make a display name, or just exclude names at the opening of quotes. Feedback form everyone would be greatly appreciated for this decision! Thanks!

1. The wall behind the oven is giving a bad perspective, the exact same problem I had noticed with the dude near the snack bar. As for open space, I personally think you should take advantage of the wall autotile and make to make a smaller room. Think about this for a moment: When modeling a house, does a person buy a huge mansion when they only have a few pieces of furniture? Because more space is more expensive, he/she will try to buy a smaller, more affordable house, and take utmost advantage of the space (s)he has. I'm not telling you to make smaller maps, I'm saying to size any indoor room according to how much space is needed.
2. I'm not sure if you knew, but the character/battler your using is from Narumara's site. The battler/character also came with a face graphic. Use Google Translate and look around on Narumara's site; all three resources will be provided with one link.
3. In my opinion, name boxes add a bit of style to it. However, it is totally up to preference whether to use it or not, so there's not much I can tell ya there.

1. To better the perspective, do I add shadowed tiles? (I wasn't sure if indoor walls would cast a shadow or not)

2. I knew it was the Narumara site; the face graphic doesn't have a transparent background. It has to be manually done and some of the details on the face are the same color as the background.

Thanks for being pateitn wiht my trials.

1. I'll post up an example in a bit.

Your are capable of using this for any non-RTP graphical resource. Just import it through the appropriate section (in this case, Pictures) and RPG Maker XP will make it as good as it's going to get.

Now, when it got faces it is a lot better

Lastly, as a style choice, I'm wondering if I should still include the name in the text box, make a display name, or just exclude names at the opening of quotes

I guess that it is really questin of style... as for me, I would prefered not to have the name as part of the text, because sometimes you can confuse if it is Thomas who says "I'll be strong" or someone saying to him "Thomas: I'll be strong"

But this is only my opinion, I think you should do what you think is better

I experimented with having the name box above the text box, and the name box just looked alittle weird to me. Maybe if I use a different windowskin it might look better.
I think I might just omit names since the face set will make it obvious who is who. However, there are some named characters who won't have face sets (Various professers) should I just leave their name in the text boxes if I don't have a name box above?

Thanks for the input.

Also, thank you KRoP for the importing tip.

I've been doing some map work, so i wanted to upload a couple of screenshots to see if they're passable or not. I'm not sure if I shadowed correctly or not, so I'd appreciate some feedback on that subject. Also, i was wondering if the corners were too sharp (there's no rounded grass in the tileset, so I just wnated to check before I started editing). Of course, any other comments are helpful as well.

Here is the revamped school hall:

The remodeled gymnasium:

Lastly, the new bonfire site. This shot is aftter the bofnire, so there are no events.

Thanks for the help!

Is terrible.

The game was pretty boring and uninteresting too.

Well, it looks as if your mapping has at least improved, Lagoon. Although it appears you still haven't fixed the windowskin problem.
@Boon: Remember that he's still new (well, at least I hope) to RPG Maker XP, and  that this is his first project.

hey do you have a link to the site of narumara? cuz i've been looking for this battler and the dude who used it said he got it in a japanese site called narumara and when i google it it gives me something else
