A few classics(Now with more Shyguy)

By classics I mean drawings OF classics, in my own imagination that is.

Tear me up, rip me apart, I want to hear some tough criticism. Everytime I look to friends of mine for it they simply say "It looks great! No way you could make that better!" and it never really helps. I am aiming to get a steady rhythm down in my drawing but so far I just go with the flow.

Anyways, here are some examples:

Alright my compadres, I am at your mercy.

The first one has a very nice grudge style to it. I'm not a fan of the second one though because its screams FOSTERS HOME FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS!!!!! But yeah if you're heading in a stylistic approach the 1st one is more of your forte just because its got a punk rock-neon age edge to it. Lets see some more stuff though before we can comment. Mayhaps Mario with a twist?

I actually quite like the first one's style more as well, I was experimenting with the second one. Did it really come off as a Foster's feel? Crap, that's no good.

But I'm definitely in agreement, I thought the first one was a lot funner to draw as well!

Next time I get some free time (probably tomorrow unless I get sicker again (bloody flu)) I just may try my own variation of Mario. :thumb:

As was requested, I whipped up a Mario.

I feel I could have done a lot more with it, but I am too sick to bother at the moment.

I whipped up some concept art for the game I am currently making, the main cast that is.

I probably should polish it up a bit later today, but here they are.

Nice style, I especially dig that mario junkie one. But you really really gotta work on your linework. Its killing your paintings.

I agree 100%! Linework is the death of me, my sketches tend to turn out much better than the finalized linework.

I suppose I need a steady hand and a bit more patience, because it seems pretty hard to incorporate sketch along with painting without linework.

Cheers though good sir! And might I say I am quite a fan of your work myself.

lol dude...i was in the same boat you were in not too long ago. I kept petting my lines and i couldnt stop, its like a virus. All it takes is practice. I still do it from time to time but its slowed down alot since i started trying to get rid of it. Also in the first few paintings you lost all of your edges so it just turned out as prettymuch a painting with outlines, Also something that I used to do. I would suggest not ever using black as an outline but rather a darker version of the color used to fill the character.
Good luck to you!

I went with a more paintsy approach this time, without the use of a lineart. I think it came out alright if I do say so myself!

Not perfect by any means, but was a nice practice for colors (which I still need to work on).

try turning down your brush opacity and buffing out your colors and tones. Also try not using black but a darker tone of your current color with a bluish hue. All the basics of art apply here too.

Understood! I actually used a low opacity and flow on my brush, but I used many coatings and it seems to of given it a sort of 'paint bucket filled in' look.

I really do need to work on my colors, black seems to always find its way back into my work. Cursed old habits.

Cheers good sir!
