so guys did you enjoy random horror/thriller movie??

seriously link to wikipedia or something instead of assuming everyone has heard of silly things.

ONTOPIC:apart from KINGDOM HOSPITAL or whatever i am not a huge fan of stephen king's work, so i doubt i will see this.

Yes she's got a very valid post, at least elaborate your original post with SOMETHING other than 'did you see this'. Because quite honestly, I hardly ever watch TV, and my friend sitting in the chair had to answer me when I said 'what the fuck is 1408?'. It looks kind of weird though, but not enough to warrant spending $10 on a damn movie ticket.

I'll save my money for probably terrible movies about things I liked in the 80's thank you very much.

lolwat
google it if you don't know what it is.

Anyway, it's a lot better than most other 'scary' movies that'v been out lately. It doesn't just rely on 'jump' moments, it's genuinely freaky without giving you a heart attack.

I really want to see it but I'm waiting for someone to go with XD

It really looks good! I'm sick of the recent "scary=blood and gore" crap. This actually looks scary=FREAK THE HELL OUTTA U AND MAKE U WATCH UR BACK FOR A WEEK scary!

It is a nice change of pace. When I was walking to the theater, I saw "PG-13" and literally said out loud "WTF, there's no such thing as a good PG-13 horror movie". Then I watched 1408 and came out saying "That was one of the best horror movies I've ever seen".

Oh, and Samuel L. got his obligatory "Fuck" in the movie. No worries.

What the heck is 1408?

This is precisely the reason why we encourage posters to elabourate on the original post. It eliminates the factor of confusion for members reading and possibly responding to the thread.

@Cruelty: In the future, if you are going to post a new thread about a specific subject that has substance (such as a new film), please have the decency to include some information (i.e. background, plot and/or overall cinematic structure) about the film (plot spoilers in spoiler tags).

OT: Since I haven't seen the film yet, I cannot comment on how "scary" it was. I did however read the short story. I'll reserve judgment for now...:(

Sorry about that, I'm not really the 'sit and actually think out a post' type.

Anywho, my friend said the same thing about it being PG13. He thought there was no way it could be good.. and I don't think he liked it, anyway.. but I thought it was one of the scariest movies I've seen in a while.

BTW.. the original was a short story?? I figured it was one of King's gigantic bible-sized books, or something.

1408 can be found in a compilation series Stephen King put together called "Everything's Eventual". The short story itself is only 54 pages, which is why I was surprised when I saw the preview to the film. I cannot imagine how badly they decided to stretch the book version.

I just saw it and wasn't impressed. They took every possible opportunity to throw in a shocker to the point where you knew exactly what would happen. There is a bit of a twist in the late movie that I found was alright, but not too original.

If you want to be scared, it's an alright watch. But if you want a deep thriller/horror, it's just not there. Can't squeeze blood from a rock, though.

I suggest that anyone going to see this movie go and see Transformers or Ratatouille instead :)

lolwat? That's all the movie was. What else was scary about it? Aside from random people showing up in mirrors, glimpses of ghosts and monsters, and the fucking alarm clock blasting that song randomly like 5 times in the movie?

Hey I just saw it, and I didn't go to a theatre :P

You realize that, even though I'm not the one that ripped the game CD and uploaded it to the internet, downloading it is still illegal right? It's piracy, regardless of whether YOU were the one that put it up for people to watch or not. - Andy

Don't jump at me though, I'm not the one who videotaped (on what seems to be a PSP or something). So until google deletes it, go there to watch if you haven't seen it.

It was pretty freaky, but not scary. The very ending was good.

The main problem I saw with it, was that it was really like random. Just glimpses of random people about to stab the guy then he turns around and its not there.

That clock radio that kept turning on was really stupid, but, it was sort of scary.

I failed throughout the movie, to see what IS in the room 1408? Was it haunted by spirits, or is it some room that leads to another dimension? Or was the guy just drunk and he imagined the whole thing.

What was the purpose of the room? Does it just show the parts where the character messed up in life, allowing them to see their past? Or is it some demonic spirit that just wants to torture?

It doesn't explain that, and thus, I was really confused by the movie.

I also failed to see why the promos, showed things that weren't in the movie. For example, the main part of the promo showed the daughter as a demon saying in a demonic voice "Daddy don't you love me anymore" which would have been a little scary, but that never happened in the movie.

Overall, its worth seeing I think. It has more ups than downs. I'd give it a 7/10 :)

I thought the movie was quite amazing, to be honest. It didn't solely rely on the "jump" tactic to scare you; it had psychologically scary parts, too.

I actually liked the part of not knowing exactly why room 1408 was evil. It helped in making you think "Is this guy psychotic, or is this really happening?"

I though Samuel L. Jackson's role was rather... interesting.

Remember at the end when he says "Well done, Mr. Enslin. Well done." What exactly does he mean by that? Was he behind the whole thing?

I thought the ending was rather good, too.

Note that the tape casette of his daughter confirms that all of the horror in the room did indeed happen.

This movie is definitely worth watching.
