Post Your Build!

Injury

Awesome Bro

Hello everyone! Welcome to Post your build! Post the specs of whats in your machine, weather its your dream machine or the one you have currently (or both!) and share thoughts on form factor, pricing, power and all that lovely stuff!

I'll start this game out with my recent purchase and what I'm going to put in it!

Dell Inspiron 660
Intel 2nd Gen i5 3.3Ghz
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB SATA (Don't know the model yet, I'll let you know!)
5.1 Integrated Audio

There isn't much in the way of video...It has an integrated 2500 series graphics with 256MB dedicated...

I'm going to be looking at putting in a GeForce 640 1GB GPU in there so I can at least have some beefy gameplay...

My dream machine would probably have 3 of those GTX Titans in there (6GB a pop, @ $1k a pop so yeah...) 2 240 ssd and 3 3 TB WD HDDs with a i7 CPU, liquid cooling at that point is a must because of those titans...and just a step up audio card...

Post your builds!!!

What I'm buying (probably):

Cosmos II (Laptop)

15.6'', 1920x1080

Quad core i7 (2.40GHz)
8 GB RAM (1600MHz)

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750 M, 2 GB

750 GB HDD at 7,500 RPM
60 GB MSATA SSD

Torn between Windows 7 Home and Windows 8 normal. Both are the same price. Can't afford any higher.

I like these builds! Daxis, how old is that machine? I'm surprised my i3 has the same processing power as you, but your integrated graphics are a bit better.

Love the builds! Keep 'em coming!

AMD Athlon II X3 450 3,2 GHZ
4GB Ram
AMD Radeon HD 5670

Good enough for modded skyrim on ultra with mods (no SSAO though)
And Dota.

So, hmm. May as well.

Motherboard: Asus Sabertooth X79 (Fuck Intel for dropping the X79 chipset like a hot potato, makes drivers a bitch to find)
Graphics: EVGA Geforce GTX 680 2GB
Processor: Intel Core i7-3930K
RAM: Corsair Veangeance 8GB (2x4GB)
PSU: Corsair HX750
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932
Internal Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7,200RPM (Used as a data drive, plus offloads OS data like users and software), Western Digital VelociRaptor 250GB 10,000RPM (Used as the OS drive, also holds things that need faster load-times), Western Digital 3TB 7,200RPM (Non-named WD brand drive, used as data storage, notable for holding files I first acquired in the mid 90s, plus most of my files since then)

The monitor is an older one from my last computer, because my options were to pay more for a (SMALLER) 1080p monitor, or to pay an exorbitant price for a bigger one. (Screen resolution is 2048x1152. If you can find a monitor being made in that resolution today, I'd be shocked. They changed to TV-based resolutions a few years back, not counting laptops. The speakers are a case of cheaping out (works is all that matters), as is the BD drive and the secondary LightScribe drive. Keyboard is four years old and cost me $5, the mouse is a Logitech M705. I have a clip-on mic plugged in, but no webcam. I have two 8GB flash drives on my keychain, plus a 16GB I haven't bothered unplugging from the main machine in months. I have an old 500GB external plugged in and serving occasional double duty for backing up my laptop, and an external 3TB plugged in and serving double duty for local backups. I have every available fan slot in this thing filled, plus a much higher end heatsink than standard (case is just barely big enough). My wireless card was bought just to get the job done, since I'm not actively streaming video or anything at the moment or in the near future.

Nice build Glitch! I just picked up a 24" SyncMaster 2443 for $80...I also got a another monitor for free! Love those flat screens, this thing is a beast!

Graphics: Could be better
Processor: (stock)
RAM: Prefers not to, it really hurts
Motherboard: I'm a male, I don't think we come with these
PSU: Has not demonstrated any symptoms of having greater than normal psychic ability
Case: Basket
Internal Storage: Roughly 4lbs, 3oz
Outer Dimensions: 6'0" x 24" x 13"
Windows Experience Index: keep that thing away from me
Monitor: I own a thermometer

Got it in 2011. I've been thinking about upgrading my ram to 8GB but I'm still investigating if it'll be worth it or not.

I have a Satellite too! Are you sure its i7 and the CPU is that slow? I wouldn't upgrade ram in a laptop if you can afford something in the middle.

i5-i7
8GB RAM
Win7

Something like that...Just my thoughts.

1.73 GHz seems low, right? I don't know that much about processors. There's suppose to be advantages and disadvantages when you weigh clock speed against multi-cores.
As I recall, i7 was brand new and it seemed like it was a good thing at the time for media creation. I just check, it looks like there are i7 processors that are running double that now. If I can go another 2 years or more with this laptop without it becoming obsolete I'll be happy. I hate replacing stuff that isn't broken.

It's a mobile processor, so it's weaker than a desktop i7. Beyond that, It's 8 cpus/quad core and lots of threads or some bullshit.

Less than a year. I'll roundabouts 8 months. It's really nice, and as a laptop plays everything.

Then again I treat all my laptops as portable desktops so w/e

I mean, one way to think about multi core is that a 3.0 ghz 1 core is slow than a 2.0 ghz 2 core - 2 x 2 > 3 x 1. But that's a really simplistic way of looking at it and there are varied pros/cons/reasons to use one or the other (of comparable strength/brand)

I think I read somewhere that multi cores are useless if you're running older software because they'll only use 1 core, or thread or whatever. I feel like that's probably why there's a delay when I run rmxp games when it used to be instant on my old laptop. But then it could also be windows 7 64bit compatibility issues, so who knows.

Multicores (at least past duo core nowadays) excel in multitasking, particularly multitasking. Virtualization, games + video + multimedia AT THE SAME TIME, extracting archives while downloading while torrenting while audio working, etc.

On one hand, if you never do more than surf or play video games, a duo core sufffices for everything, and at max an i7 over and i5 gives an 8% increase, at BEST. (GPU is basically the bottleneck for games nowadays)
On the other hand, it's great for when you actually have to do two or three things at once.
